It&#8217;s <strong><a title=\"pizza hut new menu\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/11\/pizza-hut-introduces-2-billion-ordering-options-do-we-need-that\/\">Pizza Hut<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s program for rewarding kids for reading. I crushed Book-It. I mean, in first grade, I had piles of those free Personal Pan pizza coupons stacked up at home. About once a month, mom would take me to the neighborhood Pizza Hut to collect my prize. You were only allowed one topping. One.<\/p>\n<p><em>Here kids, here&#8217;s a whole bag of Skittles, now let&#8217;s just eat one. <\/em>Say what?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101795\" alt=\"baby-bella-mushroom\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/baby-bella-mushroom.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/baby-bella-mushroom.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/baby-bella-mushroom-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Early on I narrowed in on my choice and never once deviated. At age six &#8212; through elementary school &#8212; it was a plain mushroom pizza for me. I love those little squishy, cheesy bites of fungi! Three nights ago I ordered pizza for dinner &#8212; mushrooms only. It&#8217;s really the best option. Even<strong> <a title=\"cabernet pizza sauce recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/naan-crust-pizza-with-homemade-cabernet-basil-pizza-sauce\/\">my homemade pizzas<\/a><\/strong> are piled high with thick slices of mushrooms, and the salami, bell peppers, and basil are just there for decoration.<\/p>\n<p>This, however, is not about pizza. It is a lot about how I&#8217;ve found one more place to enjoy three of my favorite things &#8212; mushrooms, cheese, carbs. Pile &#8217;em up, baby!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101797\" alt=\"mushroom pasta ingredients\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-pasta-ingredients.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-pasta-ingredients.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-pasta-ingredients-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This new pasta recipe came about how a lot of my recipes do. My little family was hungry, as they are wont to do around dinner time. I was scraping the bottom of the fridge at the end of the week and fashioned together a respectable meal with what we had. Fortunately for us that included cavatappi pasta, garlic, onion, fresh basil, and Parmesan cheese. And mushrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Have you had cavatappi? It&#8217;s the tight little spiral-curly noodles and when cooked just right they have the most incredible texture. Noodles are the queen of <strong><a title=\"what is mouthfeel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/the-science-of-mouthfeel-and-how-it-feeds-the-food-industry\/\">mouthfeel<\/a><\/strong> anyway, but these take top prize.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101799\" alt=\"cavatappi pasta\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/cavatappi-pasta.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/cavatappi-pasta.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/cavatappi-pasta-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mushrooms were sauteed in just a little butter with garlic and onions, then tossed with the hot pasta. This is finished with freshly grated Parmesan and basil. That&#8217;s it!<\/p>\n<p>Forget 30 minute meals &#8212; this is a 20 minute meal that will leave everyone impressed!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101796\" alt=\"mushroom-cavatappi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-cavatappi.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-cavatappi.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/mushroom-cavatappi-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Garlicky Mushroom Cavatappi Pasta<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>serves 4<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>8 oz. baby bella mushrooms<br \/>\n2 cups cavatappi pasta (spiral\/curly noodles)<br \/>\n4 cloves garlic, minced<br \/>\n1\/2 small yellow onion, chopped small<br \/>\n1\/2 cup chopped fresh basil<br \/>\n1\/2 cup Parmesan, shredded<br \/>\n2 Tbsp. unsalted butter<\/p>\n<p><strong>INSTRUCTIONS<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Put the pasta on to boil per package instructions; cook until it reaches the tender al dente stage. Strain and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>2. Set a skillet to med-high heat to warm. Cut thick slices of the mushrooms. Add the butter to melt, and then add the mushrooms. Let them saute for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.<\/p>\n<p>3. Add the garlic and onions to the mushrooms and let it continue to cook for 3-5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>4. Add the cooked pasta. When well combined, add the Parmesan and basil.
