{"id":1320,"date":"2008-09-22T14:00:13","date_gmt":"2008-09-22T19:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/09\/treadmill-desks-create-new-office-trend\/"},"modified":"2008-09-22T14:00:18","modified_gmt":"2008-09-22T19:00:18","slug":"treadmill-desks-create-new-office-trend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/09\/treadmill-desks-create-new-office-trend\/","title":{"rendered":"Treadmill Desks Create New Office Trend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2005, endocrinologist Dr. James Levine of the Mayo Clinic led a study showing that lean people burn about 350 more calories a day than those who are overweight, by doing things like fidgeting, pacing, or just routine things like walking to the copier.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/treadmill-desk.jpg\" title=\"treadmill desk\" alt=\"treadmill desk\" align=\"right\" height=\"339\" width=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wow, a little nervous energy may be a good thing for your health.<\/p>\n<p>So this gave Dr. Levine an idea: Why not develop a treadmill-style work area for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/5_Minute_Office_Workout\/\" title=\"office workout\" target=\"_blank\">cubicle dwellers<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Levine constructed the first known treadmill desk (which would end up being dubbed The Walkstation) by sliding a bedside hospital tray over a $400 treadmill.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Levine&#8217;s Walkstation costs about $4,000 and comes in 36 laminate finishes with an ergonomically curved desktop. The first thing that probably comes to mind is &#8220;who wants to sweat when you&#8217;re working.&#8221; Well, they have you covered.<\/p>\n<p>You can get plenty of benefit without breaking a sweat. You can burn an estimated 100-130 calories an hour at speeds slower than two miles an hour, according to research.
