According to Australian researchers, both <a title=\"low carb diet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/topics\/low-carb-diets\/\" target=\"_self\">low-carb<\/a> and high-carb diets work equally well for maintaining weight loss.<a title=\"bread and steak\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/12\/low-carb-high-carb-both-diets-do-the-trick\/\" target=\"_self\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14616\" title=\"bread and steak\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/bread-and-steak.jpg\" alt=\"bread and steak\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The researchers also pointed out that some studies have suggested that high protein diets (low-carb) may be more effective in losing weight short-term than high carbohydrate diets. However, there is less evidence regarding which approach would be better for helping people to keep the weight off.<\/p>\n<p>The study, led by Dr. Elizabeth A. Delbridge of the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Victoria Australia, divided 141 participants into groups of high protein and high carbohydrate diets for a year. The participants lost 36.4 pounds on average, and only regained about four pounds, over the following year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here are a few results from the study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All study participants saw their blood pressure go down as they lost weight<\/li>\n<li>Average <a title=\"metabolic syndrome\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/metabolic-syndrome-diet\/\" target=\"_self\">blood pressure<\/a> went up for the high-carbohydrate group during the weight maintenance phase<\/li>\n<li>Low-carb dieters sustained their blood pressure reduction<\/li>\n<li>People found it easy to stick to the low-carb diet<\/li>\n<li>Low-protein dieters struggled to eat the recommended amount of carbohydrates (55 percent) and to limit their protein intake to 15 percent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(via: <a title=\"low carb diet, high carb diet\" href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/nm\/20091119\/hl_nm\/us_carb_diet\" target=\"_blank\">Yahoo<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The key to successful weight loss is making it last.
