With the tagline of <em>A Healthier America: One Community at a Time<\/em>, the nationwide initiative that encourages everyone to promote healthier choices one-by-one seems like a no-brainer. One person, one change &#8211; the incremental amounts of positive effort that each of us makes can turn into big changes in the world around us.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/its-national-public-health-week\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-19371\" title=\"heart health\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/heart-health.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a study commissioned by the American Public Health Association, entitled <em>A Healthy America Study, <\/em>21 percent of subjects responded that they were interested in making changes to their lifestyle in order to become more healthy. Tops on the list of changes that intrigued them? Changes to dietary habits.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>People often think, &#8220;I&#8217;m just one person &#8211; what can I do?&#8221;. There are multitudes of opportunities that are open to you. Encourage a friend to join you on your walk. Advocate for smoke-free policies in public places. Help to make public parks accessible to all, or work on bringing fresh <a title=\"healthy food\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/\" target=\"_self\">wholesome foods<\/a> to your neighborhood schools.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1995, when the first full week of April was declared National  Public Health Week (NPHW), communities   across the country have  celebrated NPHW to recognize the contributions of public health and  highlight issues that are important to improving the public\u2019s health.
