{"id":2240,"date":"2008-10-27T14:00:07","date_gmt":"2008-10-27T19:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/?p=2240"},"modified":"2008-10-27T11:26:07","modified_gmt":"2008-10-27T16:26:07","slug":"study-shows-junk-food-responsible-for-one-third-of-heart-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/10\/study-shows-junk-food-responsible-for-one-third-of-heart-attacks\/","title":{"rendered":"Study Shows Junk Food Responsible for One-Third of Heart Attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/potato-chips.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2274\" title=\"potato-chips\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/potato-chips-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">Not too surprising to me or for most people, but a study was done which supported a known fact, linking junk food or a \u201cWestern\u201d diet and heart attacks.<span style=\"yes;\"> <\/span>More specifically, <a title=\"junk food\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/10\/the-secret-war-against-health-food-10-things-food-producers-keep-secret\/\" target=\"_self\">junk food<\/a> was found to be responsible for a third of heart attacks.<span style=\"yes;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">Researchers examined diets of 52 countries, questioning more than 16,000 patients, in which 5,700 of them had recently suffered their first heart attack.<span style=\"yes;\"> <\/span>The participants were divided into one of three groups based on their diet\/reported food intake.<span style=\"yes;\"> <\/span>One group was <span style=\"10.0pt;\">labeled &#8216;Oriental&#8217; because of its high intake of tofu, soy, and other sauces, the second group was &#8216;Western&#8217; because of its high intake of fried food, salty snacks, and meat, and the third group was labeled &#8216;Prudent&#8217; because of its high intake of <span class=\"yshortcuts\">fruits and vegetables<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\"> The results for this study include:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">Individuals who ate more fruits and vegetables had a 30 percent lower risk of heart attacks<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">Individuals eating a Western diet had a 35 percent greater risk of heart attacks<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">I<\/span><\/span><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">ndividuals eating the Oriental diet had an average risk of heart attacks compared to the others (probably due to the high sodium content of sauces, etc.)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\"><span style=\"small;\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"AR-SA;\">Once again, this study reiterates the significance behind a plant-based diet.<span style=\"yes;\"> <\/span>It is important to consume meats and meat alternatives as long as you are making the healthiest choices while doing so.<span style=\"yes;\"> Eating salty and fried foods is OK in moderation, but make sure it is the exception and not the rule! <\/span>A <a title=\"fruits and vegetables\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/top-reasons-to-eat-fiber\/\" target=\"_self\">fruit and vegetable<\/a> rich diet does so much for your body (prevent all types of cancer, improve bowel functioning, energizes you, etc.), in addition to keeping your heart healthy.
