Rick&#8217;s father was a strict man who didn&#8217;t share affection; in fact, Rick can&#8217;t recall ever hearing &#8220;I love you&#8221; from him. He never felt he could measure up to his father. After his father&#8217;s passing more than 20 years ago, Rick started feeding his pain with food.<\/p>\n<p>Rick was an active youth, playing two years of junior college football, during which time he weighed 170 pounds and ran six miles each day. It wasn&#8217;t until he was in his 20s did he begin to gain weight. Raised in a large family, Rick and his wife made one of their own, with five adult children and eight grandchildren.
