And yet, upon closer observation, there are reasons. You just weren’t looking their way.

The reasons, if not purely physical and metabolic (which they can be, but not often) have their origins in psychology, feelings, coping skills and life situations.

The reasons are there, but many times they creep in and exert their influence without your permission, and without your conscious knowledge.

And yet, as people, we have enormous reserves of brainpower: We can think; we can investigate; we can observe; we can change things.A lot of times it happens like this: A woman will try to understand why she eats the way she does, why she’s been holding on to extra weight, and the inquiry itself helps her do well on a diet, and she begins to lose weight. When that happens, it is new insights that enhance the diet effort.

It stands to reason, doesn’t it? If there are forces you haven’t been paying attention to, like stress, anxiety, loss, sadness, disappointment, etc., and if these very things have nudged you toward eating more, what do you do?

Well, if you are very unhappy with your eating and your weight, tackling those issues head-on could be the solid answer.

Diets are great, but when you go on one thinking it’s the one and only answer to your weight problem, then ultimately the weight problem won’t be solved. That is the reason you may have gone on diets and couldn’t stick to it, or lost weight and couldn’t keep it off: the real problems remain.

So go ahead and pick the best diet for you. Pick one that fits in well with your lifestyle; pick one that is compatible with your likes and dislikes; pick one that utilizes your personal strengths. Along with the diet, make sure you address the pivotal issues that have kept you from succeeding in the past.

___________________________________________________
Guest Blog Series: Look for the following badge on your favorite health sites to see if they have been a featured guest blogger on DietsInReview.com.
