\"Eggs<\/a>The Centers for Disease Control found that eggs<\/a> are behind hundreds of food poisoning<\/a> cases that occurred throughout July and June. Investigators in Minnesota, Colorado and California have traced the rotten eggs back to Wright County Egg. The finding has prompted a massive nation-wide recall, and the FDA is continuing investigation.<\/p>\n

Food Poisoning Journal<\/em><\/a> estimates that 280 million eggs have been involved in the recall. The list of major brands affected are Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps. The contaminated eggs were sold to restaurants and grocery stores. <\/p>\n

You can avoid contaminated eggs by looking at the plant number stamped on the carton, which begins with a “P.” Eggs found to be contaminated will have plant numbers 1026, 1413 or 1946, followed by Julian dates from 136 to 225. For example, a contaminated carton would be stamped with “P-1026 136.”<\/p>\n

According to WedMD<\/a>, the strain of salmonella found in this outbreak is the most common type. Symptoms of salmonella<\/a> infection begin to appear 17 to 72 hours after consuming a contaminated substance.<\/p>\n
