{"id":3346,"date":"2008-12-09T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2008-12-09T14:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/?p=3346"},"modified":"2008-12-15T20:53:01","modified_gmt":"2008-12-16T01:53:01","slug":"have-yourself-a-healthy-little-holiday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/12\/have-yourself-a-healthy-little-holiday\/","title":{"rendered":"Have Yourself a Healthy Little Holiday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/molly-wangsgaard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3347\" title=\"molly-wangsgaard\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/molly-wangsgaard-216x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><em>This month, we\u2019re pleased to have Molly Wangsgaard join us in the Diet Blog as our Featured Guest Blogger.<span> <\/span>Molly is a Corporate Dietitian and Program Development Manager for Jenny Craig, Inc., and will be sharing some helpful strategies on how to maintain your healthy eating and exercise behaviors during this tempting time of year. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s only the second week of December, and you may already be concerned about the possibility of a calorie-laden month ahead.\u00a0 For some, Halloween candy may have started an extra month of unplanned eating; for others, Thanksgiving may have been the official kickoff of the \u201cit\u2019s-the-holidays-so-I-might-as-well-splurge\u201d mentality.<\/p>\n<p>But it doesn\u2019t have to be that way.\u00a0 In fact, many of our successful <a title=\"jenny craig\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/Jenny_Craig\/\" target=\"_self\">Jenny Craig<\/a> clients began their weight loss journeys specifically at this time of year. These people chose to not just survive the holidays \u2014 but to thrive all year long.\u00a0 And you can too!\u00a0 It may not always be easy (we all know holiday temptations are all around us), but with a can-do attitude and a healthy, weight loss mindset, you can start taking control of your weight and your health today.<!--more-->1. Keep in mind that the word \u201choliday\u2019 ends in day \u2014 and not week or month. The special celebrations we associate with this time of year are memorable times with family and friends.\u00a0 Keep in mind that the <a title=\"holiday diet tips\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/tag\/holidays\/\" target=\"_self\">holidays<\/a> are \u201cpeople events with food present\u201d \u2014 not the other way around.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/gingerbread_men.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3348 alignright\" title=\"gingerbread_men\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/gingerbread_men.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Think moderation, not deprivation.\u00a0 Enjoy small portions of <a title=\"gingerbread recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/gingerbread\/\" target=\"_self\">gingerbread<\/a> men, latkes, Yule logs and <a title=\"sweet potato pie recipes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/sweet-potato-pie\" target=\"_self\">sweet potato pie<\/a>. These are foods that may have a special meaning to you, so take little servings and savor every bite.\u00a0 Remember: there are no \u201cgood\u201d foods or \u201cbad\u201d foods.\u00a0 All foods can be enjoyed on occasion, in moderation.<\/p>\n<p>3. Create realistic goals and expectations.\u00a0 Is it reasonable to think you\u2019ll fit into the jeans you wore in high school in a month?\u00a0 Probably not.\u00a0 But it is realistic to set small, manageable goals for yourself, such as trying to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day or moving your body a little more tomorrow than you did today.\u00a0 For some, the best goal of all during the holiday season may be to maintain your current weight and prevent weight gain or regain.<\/p>\n<p>4. Avoid an \u201call-or-nothing\u201d mentality.
