Don&#8217;t forget that when you make your own food, <em>you<\/em> control what goes into each recipe!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chips and\u00a0dip <\/strong>can be slimmed down with a few tricks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When making dips, avoid using mayonnaise, cream cheese and sour cream. I like to substitute <a title=\"greek yogurt\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/we-love-greek-yogurt\/\" target=\"_self\">greek yogurt<\/a> in my recipes\u00a0and most people hardly know the difference.\u00a0<a title=\"guacamole recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/holy-guacamole\/\" target=\"_self\">Guacamole<\/a>, <a title=\"fresh lime salsa recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/fresh-lime-salsa-picante\/\" target=\"_self\">salsa<\/a>,\u00a0and <a title=\"hummus\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/hummus\/\" target=\"_self\">hummus<\/a> are all delicious, healthy and easy to make!<\/li>\n<li>Serve your <a title=\"homeemade vegetable dip recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/vegetable-spinach-dip\/\" target=\"_self\">homemade\u00a0dips<\/a> with crudites instead of chips. Carrots, celery, cucumber, bell peppers and other crunchy veggies can be just as fun to dip and dunk!<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re surrounded by the vegetable-wary, just make sure you buy <em>baked<\/em> chips. Go one step further (and that much closer to healthy hors d&#8217;oeuvres) by making your own. Buy pita bread, cut\u00a0it into small triangles,\u00a0add some seasoning\u00a0and bake them. It&#8217;s simple <em>and<\/em> you can control how much salt you add.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Alcohol<\/strong> plays a big part at football parties, but it also plays a big part in ruining diets.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue Moon is a good craft beer that&#8217;s relatively low in calories at only about 100 calories per serving.<\/li>\n<li>Lime and orange slices\u00a0go a long way to improve the taste of <a title=\"Top 10 Lowest Calorie Beers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/09\/top-10-lowest-calorie-beers\/\" target=\"_blank\">light beer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Instead of using traditional mixers for cocktails, consider making your own and using less sugar. I found the simple combination of orange-flavored vodka mixed with some sparkling water and a Crystal Light packet to be surprisingly delicious.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Main courses <\/strong>pack a huge calorie-punch because of all the carbs and fats that are usually included.
