\"\"<\/a>If you’re considering popping a pill to relieve the extra holiday weight, you might want to think again. The FDA<\/a> released a message this week warning consumers to stay away from 28 diet pills<\/a> using “unlisted and dangerous ingredients,” as well as a “possible carcinogen.”<\/p>\n

“These tainted weight loss products pose a great risk to public health because they contain undeclared ingredients and in some cases prescription drugs in amounts that greatly exceed their maximum recommended dosages,” said Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA drug evaluation center.<\/p>\n

The primary ingredient in question is sibutramine, a very strong appetite suppressant that is related to amphetamine. This ingredient, which is linked to frightening health problems like heart attacks, stroke, heart palpitations and even increasing your risk for cancer, is not likely to be advertised on the labels of diet pills. The FDA warns that you as a consumer have no way of knowing sibutramine is in one of the following 28 diet pills:\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
