It&#8217;s something I don&#8217;t get nearly enough of, and one thing that I will never ever voluntarily avoid. It&#8217;s the first thing I think of when I get up and the only thing that remains on my mind all day long. January 3 is the Festival of Sleep. It&#8217;s not a holiday that means gifts and goodies, but it&#8217;s a day that really does pay tribute to the benefits of sleep.<a title=\"sleep\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/january-3-is-festival-of-sleep-day\/\" target=\"_self\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-39087\" title=\"sleep\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/sleep.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What, exactly, does the Festival of Sleep have to do with weight loss? Plenty.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have long known that sleep recharges the body as well as the mind. <a title=\"sleep and exercise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/11\/good-sleep-and-good-workouts-go-hand-in-hand\/\" target=\"_self\">When exercising, obtaining enough sleep<\/a> is vital to replenish your energy stores and rejuvenate you. It gives you the energy to face another day.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There is actually a physical change that occurs in our bodies when we don&#8217;t get enough sleep. Leptin is a hormone released by the brain that helps to control appetite and energy expenditure. When we don&#8217;t get enough sleep, our brains produce less leptin, which makes us feel hungry. Ultimately, this can lead to <a title=\"prevent overeating\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/10\/top-10-ways-to-prevent-overeating\/\" target=\"_self\">overeating<\/a> and obesity, because when we&#8217;re that tired and hungry we just grab whatever we can get our hands on.<\/p>\n<p>So make another New Year&#8217;s Resolution and celebrate the Festival of Sleep by making certain to get enough sleep.
