The analysis showed that walnuts have more antioxidants of a higher quality than any other nut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWalnuts rank above peanuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios and other nuts,\u201d said Joe Vinson, Ph.D., who did the analysis. \u201cA handful of walnuts contains almost twice as much antioxidants as an equivalent amount of any other commonly consumed nut. But unfortunately, people don\u2019t eat a lot of them. This study suggests that consumers should eat more walnuts as part of a healthy diet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Many years of study have shown that a moderate consumption of nuts or <strong><a title=\"Low-fat peanut butter\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/12\/the-best-low-fat-peanut-butters\/\">peanut butter<\/a><\/strong> is associated with lower levels of heart disease, gallstones, Type 2 diabetes and certain times of cancer. Walnuts are also an excellent source <a title=\"Protein Foods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/eat-protein-foods-not-protein-supplements\/\">protein<\/a>, making it a good substitute for meat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s another advantage in choosing <strong><a title=\"Walnut Nutrition\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/walnuts-pack-a-nutritional-punch-for-healthy-eaters\/\">walnuts<\/a><\/strong> as a source of antioxidants,\u201d said Vinson, who is with the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. \u201cThe heat from roasting nuts generally reduces the quality of the antioxidants.
