But instead of keeping the number in a diary, she shares it with the world on a blog, WhatIWeighToday.com. \u201cIt makes me feel accountable,\u201d explains Manning, the restaurant critic at Philadelphia magazine. (At five feet four inches, she\u2019s about 145 pounds.)<a title=\"salad\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/04\/eat-like-a-food-critic-and-stay-slim\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-47605\" title=\"blt bread salad\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/blt-bread-salad.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Still, the threat of public embarrassment isn\u2019t Manning\u2019s most effective tactic for controlling her weight: Instead, her strategy is to work out\u2014a lot\u2014and balance rich restaurant meals with light dishes at home that contain just a little meat.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Manning, along with cowriter Tara Mataraza Desmond, has turned those recipes into a terrific cookbook, the new <em>Almost Meatless<\/em>. Her summery <strong><a title=\"blt bread salad recipe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/recipes\/blt-bread-salad\" target=\"_blank\">BLT bread salad<\/a><\/strong> is a tumble of cherry tomatoes, butter lettuce and homemade croutons, with a bit of smoky bacon for substance.
