The <strong><a title=\"Fast Food Effects\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/05\/fast-food-changes-mood-and-behavior\/\">fast food<\/a> <\/strong>restaurant chain A&amp;W is speculated to stop serving burgers and root beer floats in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1919, the restaurant developed the \u201cdrive in\u201d format that remains a staple of American fast food even today. Known for its signature root beer and burgers, the company boomed after World War II and over 450 franchises were opened nationwide. However, today there are only 322 operating national stores. The company has been deemed too small to be successful. The <strong><a title=\"Teen Soda Consumption\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/teen-soda-consumption-is-down\/\">soda<\/a><\/strong> manufacturing side of the business will remain untouched as Dr.Pepper\/Snapple owns the container beverage version of A&amp;W Root Beer.<br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5301193347489978\";\n\/* outb-468 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"9780700274\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 60;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIs this a sign of the times? Are fast food restaurants possibly losing their pull with the American people? Doubtful, as A&amp;W\u2019s biggest competitors are <strong><a title=\"Healthiest Menu Choices at KFC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/healthiest-menu-choices-at-kfc\/\">KFC <\/a><\/strong>and <strong><a title=\"McDonald's diet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/McDonalds_Diet\/\">McDonalds<\/a><\/strong>, both fast food super giants. A&amp;W simply can not compete with the thousands of stores their rivals have world-wide.<\/p>\n<p>An interesting note in the fast food battle, however, is that <strong><a title=\"Healthiest Menu Choices at SUBWAY\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/healthiest-menu-choices-at-subway\/\">Subway<\/a><\/strong> chains, known for serving more &#8220;health conscious&#8221; foods, are holding their own against titans McDonalds and KFC. Subway has over 35,000 worldwide locations, very close to the amount of McDonalds.<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s a misnomer that all <strong><a title=\"Subway Bread has High Fructose Corn Syrup \" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/subway-bread-has-more-high-fructose-corn-syrup-than-whole-grains\/\">Subway menu items are healthy<\/a><\/strong>, it is true that they offer a very large variety of nutritious and beneficial meal options. This is not a claim most fast food chains can make.<\/p>\n<p>So maybe, just maybe, the possible closing of the A&amp;W establishment is a forecast of what\u2019s to come. Perhaps the fact that restaurants like Subway are beating many popular burger and fried food joints, is an indicator of healthier trends on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>A&amp;W\u2019s fate is not sealed as its closing is still a speculation at this point. The company has been for sale by its holding company, Yum! Brands, since January. So far there have been no buyers. The analysts who make these brand predictions are not always correct, and have missed the mark before.
