Determination, organization and composure can combat the prevalent \u201cfreshman 15\u201d and the following Sun Salutation (series of 15 poses) can instill just that.<\/p>\n<p>By practicing these yoga poses one right after another while moving with the breath, you will <strong><a title=\"burn calories\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/burning-calories-is-childs-play\/\">burn calories<\/a><\/strong>, increase flexibility and double your stamina. Be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead in your first year of college. Start today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sun Salutation Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> 1.\u00a0Intention Setting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To begin, start by sitting or standing in a comfortable position and <strong><a title=\"setting intentions in yoga\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/setting-intentions-in-yoga\/\">set your intention<\/a><\/strong>. This can be anything from getting an A+ on a test to making it to class on time. Setting an intention will help you realize your goals, and coupled with a yoga practice it will have a little bit more impact.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong> 2.\u00a0Mountain Pose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stand tall with feet hip width apart. Activate your thigh muscles and lift the crown of your head toward the sky. Relax both shoulders down and back.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 3.\u00a0Tall Mountain Pose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inhale to bring both arms overhead.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 4.\u00a0Forward Bend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale, fold from the hips reaching both hands toward your feet.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 5.\u00a0Half Forward Bend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inhale, lift your head and bring your spine parallel to the floor.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 6.\u00a0Warrior I<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale, step your right foot back. Inhale to hold.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 8.\u00a0Chaturanga<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale and bend elbows to lower halfway to the floor, keeping both elbows next to your body.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 9.\u00a0Upward Dog<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inhale to come to the tops of both feet, keeping hips slightly off the floor. Straighten both arms and lift the crown of your head toward the sky.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. Downward Dog<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale and roll over toes (or flip feet over) and raise hips high toward the sky, in an upside down V shape.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 11. Warrior I<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inhale and bring your right foot forward with your knee over your ankle and raise both arms toward the sky.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 12. Forward Bend<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale and lower hands down and step forward with your left foot.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 13. \u00a0Tall Mountain Pose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inhale and come up to standing with arms overhead.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 14. Mountain Pose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Exhale and return to Mountain Pose with both arms relaxed by your sides.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Complete this series again, leading with the left foot in and out of Warrior I. Repeat for up to five rounds.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong> 15.
