We chatted with Tara Zimliki, certified personal trainer and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tarasbootcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">boot camp instructor<\/a><\/strong>, for her top tips on how to turn your fitness goals into reality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/?p=53835\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-53840\" title=\"marathon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/marathon.jpg\" alt=\"marathon\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Zimliki\u00a0would know. She\u2019s a crazy-awesome runner who has completed 15 marathons and hundreds of races worldwide. In fact, she\u00a0completed the New York Marathon\u00a0eight months pregnant and even ran 1 mile the day she gave birth\u00a0to\u00a0her first daughter and 3 miles the day she gave birth\u00a0to\u00a0her second daughter.\u00a0Zimliki\u00a0believes that taking on a personal\u00a0fitness milestone is just as much a physical feat as it is a mental one. (Agreed!)<\/p>\n<p>By setting mini-goals, she says you can make an overwhelming cliff seem\u00a0a lot easier\u00a0to\u00a0climb. We couldn\u2019t agree more! Read on for Zimliki&#8217;s\u00a0tips to turning impossible fitness goals into possible fitness feats!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Impossible\u00a0Fitness\u00a0Goal #1: Break the Yo-Yo Diet Cycle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Easy Solution #1: Consult a good personal trainer. <\/strong>Sometimes we need a little one-on-one attention\u00a0to\u00a0get us\u00a0to\u00a0our goal weight. People are often unsuccessful because they try\u00a0to\u00a0fit into the mold of what they think they should be doing, instead of trying something tailored\u00a0to\u00a0personal preference, Zimliki\u00a0says. Some of us may be turned off by the cost of <strong><a title=\"Personal Trainer Isn\u2019t Really That Different From You\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/your-personal-trainer-isnt-really-that-different-than-you\/\">personal trainers<\/a> <\/strong>and health experts, but many people don\u2019t realize these sessions don&#8217;t have to \u00a0last forever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impossible\u00a0Fitness<\/strong> <strong>Goal #2: Run\u00a0Your\u00a0First Marathon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Easy Solution #3: Start training early. <\/strong>Race day is the culmination of months of training and preparation,\u00a0Zimliki says.\u00a0However, don\u2019t be discouraged by the commitment you are about\u00a0to make.\u00a0The web offers online workout-building devices and nutrition calculators\u00a0to\u00a0help you create a realistic training program. By creating a personalized-training guide, you know exactly how much time you need\u00a0to\u00a0get race-day ready. There are thousands of marathons each year, so don\u2019t feel rushed\u00a0to\u00a0get this lofty goal checked off\u00a0your\u00a0list. You will make it happen in due time!<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Impossible\u00a0Fitness\u00a0Goal #3: Lose Those Last\u00a0Five to 10\u00a0Pounds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Easy Solution #2: Enter a weight-loss contest. <\/strong>The most important thing\u00a0to\u00a0do when <strong><a title=\"getting out of your own way\" href=\"http:\/\/fitbottomedgirls.com\/2011\/07\/5-tips-to-get-out-of-your-own-way-and-lose-the-weight-for-good\/\" target=\"_blank\">getting rid of those last few unwanted pounds<\/a><\/strong> is\u00a0to\u00a0stay motivated, she says. What better way\u00a0to\u00a0do so than with a little competition? Join a weight-loss competition or start one with friends and family in order\u00a0to\u00a0get you through a diet slump.\u00a0If there\u2019s a prize involved, the cash incentive will give you that extra push\u00a0to\u00a0see this objective\u00a0to\u00a0the end. You\u2019ll lose those nagging pounds easily \u2014 no contest!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impossible\u00a0Fitness\u00a0Goal #4: Break a Personal Record<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Easy Solution #4: Take a break. <\/strong>Competing in a 5K, 10K, marathon, or triathlon is a feat in itself, but breaking a previous race time is a glorious accomplishment,\u00a0Zimliki says.\u00a0A faster time is concrete proof of all\u00a0your\u00a0hard work and dedication, regardless of whether or not you won the race.\u00a0However, the worst thing you can do before race day is\u00a0to\u00a0burn yourself out. So consider slowing down or taking a walk break. Runners at a 10-minute-mile pace tend\u00a0to\u00a0lose about 15 seconds when they walk for one minute. This means that for every minute run, the runner only has\u00a0to\u00a0run 5 seconds faster. This break also gives the runner time\u00a0to\u00a0recover and regain his or her strength. For veteran competitors, running at a slower pace, rather than walking, can have similar effects on\u00a0your\u00a0race time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impossible\u00a0Fitness\u00a0Goal #5: Bounce Back From an Injury or Hiatus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Easy Solution #5: Cross train. <\/strong>The fear of a repeat injury or being unable\u00a0to\u00a0complete a desired workout\u00a0can be daunting, Zimliki says.\u00a0In general, people need\u00a0to\u00a0find what is most comfortable for them.\u00a0Biking or swimming can be great alternatives\u00a0to\u00a0running and weight-lifting, for example. Trying a new\u00a0fitness\u00a0program will not only force you\u00a0to start slowly, but will also\u00a0help keep\u00a0your\u00a0body sturdy when you decide\u00a0to\u00a0return\u00a0to\u00a0your\u00a0normal workout.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate\u00a0your\u00a0goals\u00a0in terms of the joy and fulfillment they will bring you once they are completed. No matter how big or small, each milestone will make you stronger in body and mind, Zimliki says. When beginning\u00a0your\u00a0next\u00a0fitness\u00a0task, keep these expert\u00a0tips\u00a0in mind and before you know it, you\u2019ll be scaling\u00a0Everest.
