In fact, a recent survey showed that a convincing 73 percent of us do. But only 21 percent of Americans can name three food sources of trans fat without the aid of multiple choice.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/reading-a-food-label-101\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5749\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/transfat.jpg\" alt=\"trans fats\" width=\"265\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The thing is, even if you don&#8217;t know that the following foods have trans fats, you should certainly know that they are bad for you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>French fries<\/li>\n<li>Potato chips<\/li>\n<li>Doughnuts<\/li>\n<li>Pastries<\/li>\n<li>Hard margarine<\/li>\n<li>Vegetable shortening<\/li>\n<li>Cookies<\/li>\n<li>Candy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trans fats have a double whammy effect on your health. They increase your bad <a title=\"Cholesterol\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/Low_Cholesterol_Diet\/\" target=\"_self\">cholesterol<\/a> (LDL), and they even lower the good kind (HDL).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and nutritional consultant to the Super Bowl champs <a title=\"Pittsburgh Steelers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/healthier-super-bowl-eats-for-pittsburgh-steelers-fans\/\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a>, emphasizes one of my favorite points on how to eat: don&#8217;t demonize foods. You can eat &#8220;bad&#8221; foods, just in moderation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People are getting sick of this negative message of what not to have,&#8221; Bonci says. &#8220;Let&#8217;s focus instead on foods we love to eat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We emphasize the good side of the equation: Enjoy fruits and vegetables, <a title=\"Whole grain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/Whole_Grain_Diet\/\" target=\"_self\">whole grains<\/a>, poultry, and <a title=\"fish\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/categories\/seafood\/\" target=\"_self\">fish<\/a>,&#8221; says Michael L.
