We want to clarify some of these &#8220;myths&#8221; to help you make healthy choices, and not live in fear of food.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1. &#8220;Never eat late at night\/after a certain time (i.e. after 8pm) because you\u2019ll gain weight and store more fat.<\/strong><\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well this isn\u2019t always true. The two important things to keep in mind are total calories you are taking in for the day and what your schedule is like. Total calories translates into weight gain. If you take in more calories than you need and expend throughout your day you will start to put on some extra pounds.\u00a0 Second, knowing your schedule and when you\u2019ll be wake is very important. If you work night shifts, you may be eating breakfast at 1 p.m. and dinner at 9 p.m.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. &#8220;Low-fat and no fat diets are good for you.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wrong! This isn\u2019t true at all. Your body needs and depends of <a title=\"fats\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/09\/the-low-down-on-fats\/\" target=\"_self\">fat<\/a> in order for your body and brain to function properly.\u00a0 Also, keep in mind that when you use a fat-free product the manufacturers had to use something else in the fat&#8217;s place\u2026if the label says &#8220;fat-free,&#8221; but you can\u2019t pronounce the ingredients, I would probably steer away from that product.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. &#8220;Crash dieting or fasting\/starving yourself is the best way to lose weight quickly.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will lose weight quickly, but ultimately you won\u2019t keep that weight off. In fact, you\u2019ll probably gain more back. Remember, you didn\u2019t put that weight on over night, so don\u2019t expect to lose it over night!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. &#8220;You\u2019ll gain weight when or if you stop smoking.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is not the case for everyone. The individuals that do gain weight when they stop smoking do so because they use food as a distraction to satisfy their hands or oral gratification. They are so used to putting a cigarette in that sometimes people will put comfort food in their mouth instead. Try <a title=\"extra sugar-free gum\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/extra-sugar-free-gum-giveaway\/\" target=\"_self\">sugar-free gum<\/a> or snacking on veggies instead.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/topics\/low-carb-diets\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5968\" title=\"no-carb-diet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/no-carb-diet.jpg\" alt=\"no carb diet\" width=\"250\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. High-protein, low-carb diets are the easiest and quickest way to lose weight.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wrong! Research shows that individuals placed on a high-protein, <a title=\"low carb diets\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/topics\/low-carb-diets\/\" target=\"_self\">low-carb diet<\/a> versus a regular reduced- or calorie-controlled diet lose the same amount of weight in the end. As always, a diet that has you avoid a particular food or food group is normally a good sign that it\u2019s a fad diet and you can find a <a title=\"healthiest diets\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/americas-healthiest-10-diets\/\" target=\"_self\">healthier way to lose weight<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to dieting and losing weight, we&#8217;ve heard some real doozies.
