With it came the extra pounds added during the holidays and freezing temperatures. I don&#8217;t know about you but I&#8217;m craving healthy, warm foods. Comforting foods don&#8217;t mean sacrificing your favorite pair of skinny jeans.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of my very favorite tips I live by during the dreary days of winter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"healthiest menu choices at Starbucks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/healthiest-menu-choices-at-starbucks\/\">Starbucks<\/a><\/strong> can be addictive. Think of the high-calorie drinks as a special treat and only get them once a week. Always ask for skim milk. Your waist line and wallet with both thank you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>When you are craving a fabulous warm drink, try drinking a huge mug of warm lemon water. Most of the time your craving will pass and you will feel energized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I crave <strong><a title=\"mashed potatoes recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/better-than-mashed-potatoes\/\">mashed potatoes<\/a><\/strong> on the regular. Instead of making them with heavy cream and butter try adding chicken or veggie broth. This will enhance the flavor making them creamy and rich without the extra calories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Soups don&#8217;t have to be cream laden. The best soups can be made with fresh veggies and broth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Making a big batch of soup on the weekends is perfect for all you busy folks out there. The left overs only get better with time and make for great lunches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve a small salad at dinner every night. EVERY NIGHT. Don&#8217;t make excuses &#8230;.just do it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Embrace winters citrus fruits. Oranges and clementines are to die for right now. They are as sweet as apple pie. Is there anything more refreshing, really?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Citrus Winter Salad<br \/>\nserves 4<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Simple Tips for Beating Winter Weight Gain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/simple-tips-for-beating-winter-weight-gain\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-62966\" title=\"IMG_1254 (300x225)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_1254-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Ingredients:<\/strong><br \/>\n4 C organic baby spring greens<br \/>\n1\/2 C grapefruit segments<br \/>\n1 small red apple, thinly sliced<br \/>\n1\/4 C almonds, sliced<br \/>\n4 T olive oil<br \/>\n4 T local organic honey<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><br \/>\nDivide greens on four plates.<br \/>\nGarnish with grapefruit, apple slices and sliced almonds.<br \/>\nOn each plate drizzle with honey and olive oil.<\/p>\n<p>When all is said and done don&#8217;t worry so much about dieting. Just eat real food and enjoy everything the winter season has to offer.
