This campaign was created by the American Dietetic Association (ADA), in which they\u00a0strives to improve Americans&#8217; eating habits by\u00a0stressing\u00a0the importance of making healthy food choices, developing nutritious eating habits, and helping to incorporate physical activity to your every day life.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is simple and to the point: \u201cEat Right,\u201d and the <a title=\"ada\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatright.org\/cps\/rde\/xchg\/ada\/hs.xsl\/NNM_2007_landing_20224_ENU_HTML.htm\" target=\"_self\">ADA website<\/a> provides us with the 2026 Key Messages to help make sure we \u201cEat Right.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eating Right Messages for Everyone<\/strong><br \/>\nEating right and staying fit are important at every age!\u00a0 By making healthy food choices and being physically active every day you will help yourself live a more energized and healthier life (not to mention, feeling great about yourself!). Don\u2019t get stressed and feel like eating right is complicated, start with these recommendations from the <a title=\"dietary guidelines for americans\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/incorporate-the-dietary-guidelines-for-americans-into-your-life\/\" target=\"_self\">Dietary Guidelines for Americans<\/a>:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Emphasizes fruit, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat or fat-free milk and milk products<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs and nuts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Consume low amounts of saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium) and added sugars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Make Your Calories Count<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6644\" title=\"healthy-family\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/healthy-family-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"healthy family\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Try focusing on nutrient-rich foods rather than \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cbad\u201d foods. Nutrient-dense means that the majority of your food choices should be packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients, while being lower in calories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Making smart food choices can help you stay healthy, manage your weight and be physically active.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Focus on Variety<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Eat a variety of foods from all the <a title=\"food pyramid\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/My_Pyramid\/\" target=\"_self\">food groups<\/a> to get the nutrients your body needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Fruits and vegetables can be fresh, frozen or canned (be careful of eating veggies frozen in cream sauces because this adds a lot of fat, calories, and sodium to a normally healthy veggie).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Include more dark green vegetables (i.e. leafy greens and broccoli) and orange vegetables (like carrots and sweet potatoes); because in terms of nutrient-dense foods these two are powerhouses!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Vary your <a title=\"protein\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/protein-rich-meat-alternatives\/\" target=\"_self\">protein choices<\/a> with more fish, beans and peas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Eat at least three ounces of whole grain cereals, breads, crackers, rice or pasta every day (<a title=\"Carbs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/12\/what-everyone-needs-to-know-about-carbs\/\" target=\"_self\">never exclude your carbs!<\/a> Just choose whole-grain\/whole-wheat products).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a title=\"The low down on fats\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/09\/the-low-down-on-fats\/\" target=\"_self\">Know Your Fats<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Look for foods that are low in saturated fats, <a title=\"trans fat\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/02\/trans-fats-do-you-know-what-foods-have-them\/\" target=\"_self\">trans fats<\/a> and cholesterol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Most of the fats you eat should be monounsaturated (olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds) and polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oils like safflower, corn, or nuts and seeds).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> Remember to always check the <a title=\"food labels\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/reading-a-food-label-101\/\" target=\"_self\">nutrition facts panel<\/a> on food labels!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Nutrition Month\u00ae is the annual nutrition campaign held in March to provide\u00a0nutrition education and information.
