They shoot me the link, usually with a subject line of &#8220;Can you believe this!?&#8221; Today I logged in to find an article sent to me called &#8220;<strong><a title=\"Serving Size Scams will Make You Fat\" href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/46619166\/ns\/health-mens_health\/#.T1fLEvXtLIU\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Serving Size Scams Can Make You Fat<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; from <a title=\"Servings Size Scams Don't Effect the Well Informed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/servings-size-scams-dont-effect-the-well-informed\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-65989\" title=\"chunky soup\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/chunky-soup-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/chunky-soup-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/chunky-soup.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>MSNBC.com. Excited to share with you all which foods are &#8220;marketed as lower in calories than they really are,&#8221; I opened the link.<\/p>\n<p>Fail. This is what I found:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Serving Size Rip-Off: Campbell&#8217;s Chunky Microwaveable Soup<\/strong><br \/>\nListed calories: 200<br \/>\nServings per container: 2<br \/>\nTotal calories: 400<\/p>\n<p>They then go on to claim it is ludicrous that one single microwavable cup is 2 servings because people will only eat it all in one sitting.<\/p>\n<p>They list Pop Tarts (who only eats just one?) packages of ramen noodles, pot pies and more processed foods that anyone interested in eating healthy wouldn&#8217;t touch anyway as shady labeling offenders&#8230;because they have more than one serving per package.<\/p>\n<p>Wait, wait, wait. So because most people will devour the food in one sitting, companies should change their <strong><a title=\"following serving sizes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/5-rules-of-following-serving-sizes\/\">serving sizes<\/a><\/strong> to one entire package? Valid point if you want to make it, but to say they are &#8220;scamming&#8221; people is making excuses for those who aren&#8217;t informed on how to properly read a <strong><a title=\"nutrition labels\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/new-nutrition-labels-to-up-front-about-food-facts\/\">nutrition label<\/a><\/strong>. All the information on the package is correct and legal- it is not the company&#8217;s fault you don&#8217;t know how to interpret it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Labels don&#8217;t make you fat, it&#8217;s the amount of food you put in your mouth. If you read the labels, they all clearly state that there are multiple servings per package. No scam here. A better headline for the article?
