Who is Alex Smith, what&#8217;s his diet, and how does he stay in prime athlete shape? We did some investigating.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/nfl-quarterback-alex-smiths-diet-and-fitness-regimen\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-66633\" title=\"alex smith\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/alex-smith-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/alex-smith-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/alex-smith.jpg 427w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For starters, Alex Smith is a quarterback who stole much attention as the number one overall NFL draft pick in 2005. And although he didn&#8217;t turn heads early in his career, he threw for more than 3,000 yards and 17 touchdowns last season with virtually no interceptions, going 13-3.<\/p>\n<p>So we get it. He&#8217;s a big deal. But what does the man eat? Several years ago during an appearance on Jay Leno&#8217;s The Tonight Show, Smith talked a lot about his diet, saying he eats &#8220;as much and as many things as possible.&#8221; And he&#8217;s probably right since the average athlete can consume anywhere from 3,000 &#8211; 5,000 calories a day. Unless he&#8217;s training like <strong><a title=\"Michael Phelps Diet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/michael-phelps-diet\/\">Michael Phelps<\/a><\/strong>, in which case he&#8217;s taking in nearly 12,000 calories.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>So what does Smith do to require all that fuel? Although we don&#8217;t know his detailed training regimen, we can guess that he&#8217;s staying active doing what he loves: playing football and working on his throwing arm. This likely includes a good mix of running, <strong><a title=\"beginner's guide to weight training\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/slideshows\/beginners-guide-to-fitness\/beginners-guide-to-weight-training\/\">weight training<\/a><\/strong> and hours spent on the field like most NFL athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Who knows what else we&#8217;ll learn about Alex Smith in the coming year, especially if he becomes the Dolphins&#8217; new star quarterback. We have our fingers crossed that he&#8217;ll divulge all of his diet and training secrets.
