I know this because I am one. I very rarely eat meat and the thought of a meat patty can sometimes just gross me out. I whipped up a small batch over the weekend and was very pleased with the result.<\/p>\n<p>Having dabbled with this salty-sweet combination before &#8211; including my much-loved <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mylittlecelebration.com\/food\/sweet-potato-pie\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">sweet potato pie<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; I knew that\u00a0pairing the saltiness of the black beans and a sweetness of the potato would be a perfect marriage of flavors. In about five minutes flat I had my heart-healthy patties ready to cook &#8211; no grill required. These burgers are packed with nutrients including plenty of dietary fiber and protein from the black beans, and lots of iron, magnesium, vitamin D, C and B6 from the sweet potato.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/black-bean-and-sweet-potato-burgers-make-a-tasty-vegetarian-summer-meal\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-73455\" title=\"veggie-burger\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/veggie-burger.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/veggie-burger.jpg 450w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/veggie-burger-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"black bean sweet potato burgers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/black-bean-sweet-potato-burgers\/\">Black Bean Sweet Potato Burgers<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>yields 12-14 burgers | vegetarian and vegan friendly<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ingredients<br \/>\n2 cans of black beans, lightly rinsed and drained<br \/>\n1 large sweet potato, cooked, skin removed<br \/>\n1\/4 cup of red or white onions<br \/>\n1\/2 cup quick-cooking oats<br \/>\n1 tablespoon dijon mustard<br \/>\n1 teaspoon of cumin<br \/>\ndash of cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon freshly grated ginger or ginger powder<\/p>\n<p>Method | Preheat oven to\u00a0350 degrees F. In a large bowl, mash the black beans and sweet potato together with a whisk or fork. Then add remaining ingredients and stir until well combined using a large spoon. Spray a baking sheet with oil, then place 1\/4-cup patties onto the sheet. Cook for 8 minutes on each side. Serve immediately with desired toppings. Store in refrigerator to keep fresh for a few days. I preferred stacked high with veggies, a swirl of ketchup and mustard, and a few slices of fresh jalapeno.<\/p>\n<p>So how did it measure up? This variation definitely met my veggie burger standards. It was moist on the inside and slighlty firm on the outside, plenty flavorful, well-portioned, and just as satisfying if not more than a traditional <strong><a title=\"beef burgers and sweet potato fries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/beef-burgers-and-sweet-potato-fries\/\">beef or turkey burger<\/a><\/strong>. Plus, I loved that each patty (when made in a 14-count batch) came out to around <strong>120 calories<\/strong>, <strong>0.5 grams of fat<\/strong>, <strong>22 grams of carbohydrates<\/strong>, <strong>5 grams of fiber<\/strong>, and <strong>7 grams of protein<\/strong>.
