The chicken giant just unveiled it’s new Kentucky Grilled Chicken, a lower-fat and lower-calorie alternative to the Colonel’s traditional bucket of fried breasts, thighs and legs.

The Kentucky Grilled Chicken also has its own clandestine secret recipe that contains six special herbs and seasonings. The mystery recipe is kept under tight security in a safe at the company’s headquarters, right next to the Colonel Sander’s handwritten recipe of 11 herbs and spices that coat the famous chicken.

In regards to nutrition, here is how the Kentucky Grilled Chicken stacks up: One piece has between 70 and 180 calories (KFC’s original chicken has about 110-370 calories per piece) and four grams of fat (original has 7 to 21 grams of fat). But its sodium content is still pretty high with just about 25 percent of your daily sodium needs per once piece.

KFC promises that its new Kentucky Grilled Chicken with its unique blend of spices and herbs and its slow-roasted preparation will not disappoint. In fact, the chicken is roasted in special patented ovens that take about 20 minutes to produce one batch of chicken.

If you’re worried about your waist and your wallet – don’t be. The new chicken will cost the same as the fried stuff. And KFC will offer a free piece of its Kentucky Grilled Chicken to all customers on April 27th.

A few suggestions for making an even healthier choice out of the new KGC:

Remove the skin from the chicken as this holds a lot of fat and calories.

Order a water instead of soda with your meal.

Be cautious of sides, as most are full of fat and calories.
