{"id":7572,"date":"2009-04-24T01:00:22","date_gmt":"2009-04-24T06:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/?p=7572"},"modified":"2012-10-29T14:49:40","modified_gmt":"2012-10-29T19:49:40","slug":"serving-size-is-not-just-a-suggestion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/04\/serving-size-is-not-just-a-suggestion\/","title":{"rendered":"Serving Size is Not Just a Suggestion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/reading-a-food-label-101\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-693 alignleft\" title=\"nutrition facts label\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/nutrition-facts-label.jpg\" alt=\"nutrition facts label\" width=\"256\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a>One of the biggest keys to weight loss success is facing the reality of an accurate serving size.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s take this morning&#8217;s breakfast of cereal as a prime example, shall we?\u00a0 If you are anything like me, I stumble into the kitchen, blearily grab a box of <a title=\"best cereal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/03\/the-best-and-worst-breakfast-cereals\/\" target=\"_self\">cereal<\/a> and a bowl, and dump the cereal into the bowl.\u00a0 I fill it most of the way full, and then add milk.\u00a0 I sit down and eat, not paying much attention until I get to the bottom of the bowl.\u00a0 Zzzzzz&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s the problem in this scenario?\u00a0 (Other than the fact that I&#8217;m eating while just about asleep, that is&#8230;) The almost certain culprit would be the way that I poured the cereal.\u00a0 Free form, loose and flowing are great things for art work, but they really play havoc on your diet.\u00a0 Flip that cereal box around, see where it say SERVING SIZE?\u00a0 Yeah, those words are actually there for a reason, not just as pretty filler for white space.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Do what I did when I was trying to lose weight, and actually measure out the recommended serving size \u2014 usually somewhere between 1\/2 and 3\/4 cup.\u00a0 Pour that amount into the bowl that you usually use.\u00a0 Now, pick yourself up off the floor and realize that you&#8217;ve been eating two, three or more times the amount \u2014 which means, my pretties, that you&#8217;ve been eating that many more calories.
