Can they cause weight gain? and Are they addictive?<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, Oz links artificial sweeteners to <strong><a title=\"Understanding Metabolic Syndrome\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/04\/understanding-obesity-related-diseases-metabolic-syndrome\/\">metabolic syndrome<\/a><\/strong>, a dangerous epidemic he says is sweeping the nation. Metabolic syndrome consists of high blood pressure, excess belly fat, and insulin resistance. Oz examines the links between artificial sweeteners and <strong><a title=\"Alzheimer's a Type 3 Diabetes?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/04\/understanding-obesity-related-diseases-metabolic-syndrome\/\">Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong> as well. He decides that the risks outweigh any perceived benefits when it comes to artificial sweeteners.
