{"id":864,"date":"2008-08-04T11:43:16","date_gmt":"2008-08-04T16:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/dont-overlook-lunch-with-back-to-school-plans\/"},"modified":"2009-07-15T11:27:55","modified_gmt":"2009-07-15T16:27:55","slug":"dont-overlook-lunch-with-back-to-school-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/dont-overlook-lunch-with-back-to-school-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Overlook Lunch with Back to School Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s approaching back to school time, so have you though about your child\u2019s (or children\u2019s) lunch?\u00a0 It\u2019s sad to say, but for the most part our <a title=\"school lunch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/wordless-wednesday-school-lunch\/\" target=\"_blank\">school\u2019s cafeteria food<\/a> is extremely lagging in terms of providing healthy, nutritious meals.\u00a0 Even more upsetting is the fact that little can be done to improve these meals\u2026 simply put, it comes down to budgets and money.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lunch box\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/lunch-box.jpg\" alt=\"lunch box\" width=\"250\" height=\"241\" align=\"left\" \/>I do have good news!\u00a0 Packing your child\u2019s lunch can help guarantee your child is receiving a healthy meal that will help them stay focused and be motivated at school.\u00a0 Same rules apply here for your child as they do for you: limit the amount of processed foods (packaged cookies, chips, etc) you provide, pack water, milk, or 100% juice instead of soda, provide plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, and make sandwiches on whole grain\/whole wheat bread.<\/p>\n<p>Make it a group effort; you and your child can make the lunches together as part of your nightly routine before bed.\u00a0 That way your child has a say in the foods he\/she will eat, you provide education to why eating a healthy diet is important (and lead by example!).
