{"id":877,"date":"2008-08-07T08:00:24","date_gmt":"2008-08-07T13:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/start-your-day-off-right%e2%80%a6eat-breakfast\/"},"modified":"2008-08-07T10:33:35","modified_gmt":"2008-08-07T15:33:35","slug":"start-your-day-off-right%e2%80%a6eat-breakfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/start-your-day-off-right%e2%80%a6eat-breakfast\/","title":{"rendered":"Start your day off right\u2026eat breakfast!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breakfast, that word says it all\u2026 you are breaking the fast.\u00a0 You wake up and it\u2019s been 7-9 hours (or longer) since you have eaten a meal.\u00a0 Why is breakfast so important?\u00a0 Well your brain runs on glucose for energy which allows you to function and do your normal daily routine.\u00a0 If you skip breakfast and don\u2019t eat until lunch, you are going way too long and putting unnecessary strain on your body.<\/p>\n<p>Since there is no glucose for energy, your body is working extra hard using stored glucose or\u00a0breaking down protein or fat into a useable form for energy.\u00a0 Your body is doing all this hard work while you are trying to perform 100%\u00a0at work or school.\u00a0 That\u2019s a lot to ask!\u00a0 Eating breakfast has been proven to improve mood, memory, concentration, and mental performance.\u00a0 You and your children are at a disadvantage if\u00a0you skip out of breakfast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/breakfast-cereal.jpg\" title=\"breakfast\" alt=\"breakfast\" align=\"left\" height=\"166\" width=\"300\" \/>Eating breakfast also helps with weight loss and weight maintenance.\u00a0 By eating regularly you are providing brain fuel and energy, jump starting your metabolism, and you can sensibly and reasonably think about your meals because you aren\u2019t starving and trying to devour the first thing you can get your hand on.<\/p>\n<p>A common excuse for not eating breakfast is \u201cnot having enough time.\u201d\u00a0 There are ways to get around this excuse:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wake up 10 minutes earlier<\/li>\n<li>Have plenty of healthy breakfast options around the house<\/li>\n<li>Prep the night before.\u00a0 Try to prepare as much as you can the night before (pre-cut fruit, pre-bag cereal, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Have easy to grab and go options (yogurt, mini box cereals, fruit, granola, etc), but taking caution to avoid pastries, sweetened cereal bars, and toaster strudels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another excuse is \u201cI\u2019m not hungry.\u201d\u00a0 Ways to overcome this are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take your grab and go options with you and eat them in the car or once you get to work\/school<\/li>\n<li>Wake up earlier and get moving earlier<\/li>\n<li>Make it a habit\u2026 wake up and eat.\u00a0 In doing so you&#8217;ll train yourself and get into a routine.\u00a0 Soon you will be waking up and won\u2019t want to wait to eat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/06\/guest-blog-veggie-breakfast-bircher-muesli\/\" title=\"vegetarian breakfast\" target=\"_blank\">creative<\/a> with your breakfast and include your entire family!\u00a0 Incorporating the kids in making breakfast is another great opportunity to enjoy some time together and provide education on eating healthy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Breakfast, that word says it all\u2026 you are breaking the fast.\u00a0 You wake up and it\u2019s been 7-9 hours (or longer) since you have eaten a meal.\u00a0 Why is breakfast so important?\u00a0 Well your brain runs on glucose for energy &hellip;
