The hot topic: <strong><a title=\"Tracy Anderson Diet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/tracy-anderson-method\/\">Tracy Anderson<\/a><\/strong> telling Redbook magazine, &#8220;Spin may burn calories in the short term, but if that&#8217;s all you&#8217;re doing, it&#8217;ll bulk up your thighs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tracy_Anderson_fitness_reality_show.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-94881 aligncenter\" alt=\"Tracy_Anderson_fitness_reality_show\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tracy_Anderson_fitness_reality_show.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tracy_Anderson_fitness_reality_show.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Tracy_Anderson_fitness_reality_show-176x300.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This did not sit well with the <strong><a title=\"Choose the studio for you\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/big-and-fancy-mild-mannered-or-family-friendly-choose-the-gym-thats-right-for-you\/\">SoulCycle<\/a><\/strong> loving masses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>My girls <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saraknathan\">@saraknathan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/berlinbaby8\">@berlinbaby8<\/a> tell me <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/soulcycle\">@soulcycle<\/a> has been hitting back over &#8216;spinning bulks thighs&#8217; claims <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/zCGWNij76x\">http:\/\/t.co\/zCGWNij76x<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tamara Abraham (@TamaraAbraham) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TamaraAbraham\/statuses\/423101926952038400\">January 14, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anderson quickly changed her story via\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/gwyneth-paltrows-trainer-spinning-bulks-thighs\/story?id=21518368\" target=\"_blank\">ABC news<\/a><\/strong>, saying: &#8220;I&#8217;ve never said that spinning makes you gain weight. What I&#8217;ve said is that spinning creates an imbalance in the muscular system. It bulks the thigh and butt muscles. You develop mass by working these same muscles over and over.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This didn&#8217;t sit well with my fitness friends. Via twitter, many questioned her credibility and in the past I&#8217;ve done the same.<\/p>\n<p>But as the controversy unfolded all I could think was, &#8220;Hold on. Maybe she&#8217;s right. And what&#8217;s wrong with that?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hear me out. I love <strong><a title=\"Guide to spinning\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/01\/a-beginners-guide-to-spinning\/\">indoor cycling<\/a><\/strong>. I go at least two times a week and I am absolutely obsessed. I discovered the class when knee troubles forced me to quit running and it&#8217;s been a life-saver for me in terms of burning calorie and managing stress. It&#8217;s my go-to solution for cardiovascular training and when I&#8217;m on a bike I feel fierce.<\/p>\n<p>I love what indoor cycling has done to my body, helping me shed fat and build strength and endurance. My legs have grown stronger, thanks to pushing that 40-pound flywheel on the bike, and I have very clear quad and hamstring definition. I love climbing hills and when I&#8217;m out of the saddle my butt and thighs truly burn, in a good way. But despite the hundreds of miles I&#8217;ve ridden I don&#8217;t necessarily have skinny thighs. I have strong and shapely legs which I&#8217;m pretty happy with, but I suspect that their circumference, if not their shape, is about the same as in my pre-cycling days.\u00a0My waist is certainly thinner and my legs have less fat on them; they feel more muscular than before, although not necessarily &#8220;bulky&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s just fine.<\/p>\n<p>For me, thigh gap isn&#8217;t the goal: Increased muscular endurance means I have fewer knee problems and an easier time making it up hills and holding hard positions in barre class. As a side-benefit, I also get an extra boost of endorphins and am able to eat a couple of pieces of chocolate after dinner without giving it much thought.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t get me wrong. I&#8217;m not saying Tracy Anderson is right\u2014I&#8217;ll let the experts weigh in on that one.
