I&#8217;ve been known to order a green juice after yoga class or a <strong><a title=\"Beetroot juice good for athletes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/beetroot-juice-found-to-enhance-athletic-performance\/\">beetroot juice<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0before bootcamp. In fact I&#8217;ve even followed 1-day juice fasts with both <strong><a title=\"Blueprint Cleanse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/the-blueprint-cleanse\/\">Blueprint Cleanse<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a title=\"Cooler Cleanse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diets\/the-cooler-cleanse\/\">Cooler Cleanse<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;ve long wondered just how healthy the juicing cleanse trend was. After all, once you strain away the healthy fiber of fruits and veggies you&#8217;re left with a lot of nutrients (pro) and also a lot of sugars (con). People claim to feel lighter and &#8220;detoxed&#8221; after drinking these fresh blends, but regular juicing never sat right with me. After all, nutritionists regularly steer clients away from juice because of its high concentration of sugars and calories, recommending whole foods like salads and pieces of fruit instead. Why would a diet of just juice be good when a glass of juice is often considered bad?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/juices-e1389832208519.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-94962\" alt=\"juices\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/juices-e1389832208519.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I read a recent Opinion piece in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com\/2014\/01\/01\/kale-juicing-trouble-ahead\/?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a><\/strong>, about how Jennifer Berman&#8217;s health habits\u2014including juicing\u2014were having the opposite affect, I wasn&#8217;t all that surprised.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Per Berman:<\/p>\n<p><em>I went to the dentist, who said I had five cavities and asked if I snacked on candy and sodas all day long. I was insulted. Indignant. What did he take me for? No, I answered. I don\u2019t eat sugar and drink only fresh vegetable juices&#8230; and filtered water with lemon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou\u2019d be better off with chocolate and cola,\u201d he said.
