Let&#8217;s look at a few of them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Yogurt<\/strong> &#8211; many popular brands of yogurt contain as much sugar as ice cream. Some have added cereals and chocolate chips. Instead, start with a plain version and add your own flavors with whole fruit. If you need a sweetener, a small amount of honey or agave syrup can add a great deal of flavor. <a title=\"greek yogurt recipes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/videos\/bernie-presents-healthy-kid-friendly-snacks\/\" target=\"_self\">Greek yogurt<\/a> is one of my personal favorites!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Granola<\/strong> &#8211; this popular cereal choice can be very high in saturated fats and calories. Make your own <a title=\"granola recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/recipes\/homemade-granola\/\" target=\"_self\">granola<\/a> and you can control the ingredients, adding more healthy choices. You can even mix the granola in with your plain yogurt for a delicious treat!<!--more--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Granola Bars<\/strong> &#8211; many of these are glorified candy bars with added sugar and in some cases, coated with chocolate. Why not make your own <a title=\"kashi granola bars\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/05\/food-find-kashi-granola-bars\/\" target=\"_self\">granola bars<\/a> with your homemade granola?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fruit Leather\/Strips\/Chewies\/Fruit Snacks<\/strong> &#8211; Many of these choices are not fruit at all but concoctions with large amounts of corn syrup and food coloring. Instead, look for real <a title=\"dried fruit snacks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/04\/we-love-freeze-dried-fruit\/\" target=\"_self\">dried fruit<\/a> or 100% fruit leather.\u00a0 (Be sure to brush your teeth really well after!)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/food-fight-vitamin-waters\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9569\" title=\"vitamin water\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/vitamin-water.jpg\" alt=\"vitamin water\" width=\"200\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bottled Water<\/strong> &#8211; believe it or not, even bottled water can be a detriment to your healthy eating endeavors. Many <a title=\"vitamin water\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/08\/food-fight-vitamin-waters\/\" target=\"_self\">bottled waters<\/a> have added sugar and juice. We waste tons of calories every day on liquids, and drinks that are fortified with vitamins and minerals are unnecessary &#8211; you get most of what you need from your daily intake. Plain water is all you need, but if it&#8217;s not appealing, add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice or some fresh fruit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Whole Wheat Bread<\/strong> &#8211; make sure that your bread choice is 100% whole wheat or whole grain and not merely bleached flour with caramel color added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to get tripped up when you are trying to eat healthy. <a title=\"how to read a food label\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/07\/reading-a-food-label-101\/\" target=\"_self\">Read food labels<\/a> and remain vigilant with your choices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lot of foods appear healthy but contain ingredients that add unwanted fat and calories and can undo hours of work at the gym.
