Check out the findings below, from a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodinsight.org\/Resources\/Detail.aspx?topic=2013_IFIC_Foundation_Food_Health_Survey_Media_Resources\" target=\"_blank\">national survey<\/a><\/strong> of American adults ages 18 to 80 by the International Food Information Council, to see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/food-measure-up-e1392077233105.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-95738\" alt=\"food measure up\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dietsinreview.com\/diet_column\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/food-measure-up-e1392077233105.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Weight and Health:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>90 percent describe their health as good or better. Most\u201462 percent\u2014report having \u201cexcellent\u201d or \u201cvery good\u201d health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>56 percent say they\u2019re trying to lose weight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>27 percent are trying to maintain their weight.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>81 percent say they have \u201ca high level of control\u201d over how much they weigh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>30 percent say they try to control their weight \u201ca great deal.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nDiet:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On average, people gave their diets a B-. That\u2019s a full grade higher than the C- they rated the average American\u2019s diet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>66 percent of people gave the following as the main ways they could improve their diet:<br \/>\n\u201417 percent said they should eat a &#8220;healthier&#8221; or &#8220;more balanced&#8221; diet<br \/>\n\u201417 percent thought they should eat more fruits and vegetables<br \/>\n\u201417 percent thought they should cut back on sweets\/junk food\/snacks\/sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>88 percent said they\u2019re eating more fruits and vegetables.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>82 percent are cutting calories by drinking either water or low or calorie-free beverages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>78 percent are eating more foods containing whole grains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>75 percent are cutting back on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebestlife.com\/article-archive\/sugar-smarts\/\" target=\"_blank\">high-sugar<\/a><\/strong> foods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>60 percent are actively making an effort to take in fiber, whole grains and protein.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>73 percent say they\u2019re consuming smaller portions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>70 percent are reducing their salt intake.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>66 percent are limiting foods containing \u201csolid fats\u201d (I\u2019m taking that to mean butter, margarine and, perhaps, fatty cuts of meat).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>60 percent are cutting back on full-fat dairy and subbing in low-fat or fat-free alternatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>38 percent of Americans \u201calways\u201d or \u201coften\u201d think about the number of calories they consume.
