Shrimp Jambalaya

Interview with Jillian Michaels

We had the opportunity to speak with famed trainer Jillian Michaels this week. She introduced us to her upcoming book, "Master Your Metabolism," publishing April 7. She talks about working with endocrinologists for herself and Biggest Loser contestants to learn more about the inner-workings of our biochemistry, and how the "frankenfoods" (her name for fake, processed food) we eat play a major role in our health problems and weight issues.

In part two, Jillian opens up about her role on Biggest Loser, and suggests her involvement for season eight is debatable. She says she's working with NBC because she "needs certain things" to continue. This current season has been hard on her, saying that she's unhappy and miserable.

3 Ways to Cut Sodium

The average person is supposed to consume no more than 1500 - 2300mg of sodium per day (or 1 tsp.), depending on blood pressure. Most of us are consuming two-to-three times this amount each day. So here are some quick and simple ways to reduce the salt:

  1. Eat Fresh Foods. Cooking your own meals with fresh ingredients will make a big difference.
  2. Read Labels. Choose no-sodium or reduced-sodium canned and packaged items when necessary.
  3. Skip the Instructions. Replace salt in recipes with any other spice or herb.
