One of the main reasons I try and eat mostly vegetarian is that I find it difficult to find natural meats free of hormones and antibiotics at my local grocery stores. In fact, upon visiting the meat counter at a nearby market, I asked where their grass-fed meat selection was. I was given a baffled look in return and the answer, “We don’t have any of that.” Naturally, my solution was to stick to grains, beans and dairy for protein instead.
It’s not that I don’t like meat, because I certainly do. If quality, naturally-raised meat was more readily available in my city, I might consider eating it more often.
Lucky for me, Suzy Sirloin – a producer of natural meats in New York – recently reached out to Diets In Review and offered to send a sample of their hormone- and antibiotic-free beef. We of course jumped at the chance and just a few days after my shipment arrived, I got right to sampling my Suzy Sirloin meats.
The ‘Suzy’ behind Suzy Sirloin is a fifth generation member of the Strassburger family, who has been offering top quality prime and aged beef to some of the best steakhouses in the country for years. Suzy took naturally to the family business, and as a true cowgirl herself she was eager to continue the tradition of offering quality cuts of meat to both existing and new customers when time came for her to take over ownership.
After earning her master’s degree in beef advocacy, Suzy took over the reigns of the company and created a new line of meats under the name “Suzy Sirloin.” Today, she’s offering even more quality, American-raised beef, pork, lamb and veal, all raised completely free of antibiotics and added hormones.
In our Suzy Sirloin sample box, we received two packages of 90 percent lean ground beef and one NY strip steak. One of my favorite dishes featuring ground beef is spaghetti, so I browned up a package and added some of my go-to marinara sauce, and before long I had a generous plate of spaghetti that was both delicious and 100 percent natural.
What did we think? My husband and I were extremely impressed with the beef. It was tender, juicy and full of rich flavor. I can’t wait to make some burgers with the other package of ground beef, and try the NY strip steak for dinner later this week.
In addition to being pleased with the quality and taste of the beef, another thing we loved about working with Suzy Sirloin was how friendly and prompt the service and interaction was. If we ever had any problems with the meat or the service, the phone number and email address to reach Suzy directly was listed right on the website for our convenience, which gave us all the more confidence that Suzy’s products are top quality and worth standing behind.
To order some of Suzy’s natural meats for yourself, visit the website and pick out a selection that’s right for you. Suzy offers a variety of bundled packages, such as the “Build a Burger” that includes eight total packages of ground beef, pork, lamb and veal for $79. Though the price is slightly higher than what you’d see in grocery stores, we can attest that Suzy Sirloin meats are extremely high quality and certainly worth paying the extra few dollars for.
