Weight Watchers recently added four new dishes to their line-up of Smart Ones frozen meals. Many people find Smart Ones a convenient approach to portion control and calorie cutting. All Smart Ones products now incorporate the new PointsPlus program.
There are two new breakfast options and two new Signature Sundaes. The new breakfast items are French Toast with Turkey Sausage and the Egg, Sausage and Cheese Wrap. The wrap has scrambled egg whites with cheese sauce, veggies and sausage in a soft tortilla. The wrap may seem small at first glance, but I found it to be quite filling. It has six points on the PointsPlus program, 240 calories, seven grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein.
I tend to gravitate towards sweet things in the morning, so if you’re like me, you may want to try the French Toast. The French Toast with Turkey Sausage has seven points on the PointsPlus program, 290 calories, two grams of fiber and 14 grams of protein. However, if you’re trying to cut back on sugar, you should take note that this breakfast, which comes with a side of syrup, has 17 grams of sugar.
The two new desserts are the Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae and the Turtle Sunday. Treats like these represent a huge calorie savings when compared to their full-fat versions. The brownie sundae has a chocolate cookie crust topped with vanilla-flavored ice cream, fudge sauce and chunks of brownie, for just 140 calories and 2.5 grams of fat. The Turtle Sundae has a praline-flavored cookie crust with vanilla flavored ice cream topped with caramel sauces, chocolate shavings and pecans. It contains 130 calories, three grams of fat and ten grams of sugar. Both are surprisingly rich, and will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
Our only concern about these products is the rather long list of food additives. We hope that in the future, Weight Watchers can formulate products with a simpler list of ingredients.
