Plus-size model Crystal Renn was upset that photos from a Passion for Fashion charity shoot had been retouched to make her appear thinner. “When I first saw the photos, I would have to say I was absolutely shocked,” Renn said on the TODAY show Thursday. “I think I sat in silence for a good five minutes.”
As a teen Renn suffered from both anorexia and bulimia in attempt to get down to a size zero. Her starvation exhausted her completely and began to cause her hair to fall out, until she finally had an epiphany. Her modeling career took off only when she recovered from the disorders and got back to a normal weight. She is now an inspiration to curvy girls everywhere and a paragon of healthy beauty. She has appeared in Dolce & Gabbana ads, Vogue and Glamour.
“I didn’t think it was an accurate portrayal of my body in any way,” Renn said of the Passion for Fashion images. “I’m a size 10, and that’s more like a size 2.”
