Marriage is one of the happiest events in a person’s life, which explains why divorce can be one of the most traumatizing. As with most celebrities going through splits, the media has flocked around the dramatic weight loss Jennie Garth has seen since her split from fromer husband and “Twilight” actor, Peter Facinelli.
It’s been five months now since Garth, made famous from her days on Beverly Hills, 90210, split from Facinelli. The divorce came after 17 years together as a couple, 11 of which were as man and wife.
Despite her dramatic weight loss, the star claims that she is taking care of herself and trying to remain a good example for her three girls, Luca, 15; Lola, 9; Fiona, 5.
It’s been estimated that Garth’s 5’5″ frame has likely shrunken to right around 100 pounds, which is around 30 pounds lighter than her pre-split figure.
On a recent episode of her TV series Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country, the star opened up about how difficult the separation has been.
“When you get married you hope it’s forever and you hope you’re gonna grow old together. It threw me for a loop,” she said. “Any woman or human would feel rejected…With any sort of rejection you are angry that you weren’t enough for that person. I don’t know if I’m angry at myself for not being enough, or if I’m angry at him for not considering me to be enough.”
In an interview with ET, Jennie admitted the fallout after the divorce is what has caused her change in appearance. “Your body changes with your emotional state of mind sometimes,” she said. “I think a lot of women can relate to that.”
As for her diet, Garth says with summer there’s been a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables around her home. “I’m just taking care of myself: Eating less, exercising more, drinking a lot of coconut water,” she told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “I eat a lot of Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt in the morning, salads and proteins the rest of the day and maybe a cupcake if I’ve been a good girl. I don’t believe in depriving yourself of the things you want.”
Despite the hardship she’s experienced with the divorce, Garth has been open to dating again and has even been spotted with a couple of potential suitors. “Dating is very new for me. I have training wheels on right now, because I was married [for so long],” she said. “That’s my whole adult life, basically. I think I’m actually going back into adult adolescence. I’m having a moment.”
In addition to the excitement of being back on the dating scene, Garth has also been loving living in the country on her ranch-style farm house with an abundance of animals and her three girls. “It has allowed me some really great perspective and reality,” she said, adding that the TV show show wasn’t the reason for the split, it was just something that she and her daughters girls wanted to do. “The two did not go together at all.”
Countless other stars have been through similar situations, one of which being Eva Longoria who split from her husband Tony Parker after only a few years of marriage. Like Garth, Longoria lost a fair amount of weight both during and after the divorce process, and she attributed her weight loss to the “divorce diet,” which is basically eating less as a result of stress.
Who knows, maybe out of the divorce Garth will produce a cookbook just like Longoria’s “Eva’s Kitchen.” I for one would love to see what Garth cooks up for she and her girls out on the farm. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.
