Why You Should Care that Your Employees are in Good Shape

Life has its many lessons and journeys that we go through and right now Robbie Ray‘s is to bring health and wellness to as many people as he can. He’s passionate about being a personal trainer and looking forward to working with anyone who wants to change their life. “DARE TO BE GREAT AND YOU WILL BE!”

I’ve been in the United States Army for seven years. But it didn’t take me nearly as long to learn this golden rule: if you take care of your soldiers they, in turn, will take care of you.

Increasingly, corporate America is embracing this same concept by getting serious about health and wellness programs. Companies of all sizes have realized the many benefits of educating and coaching their employees on how to live healthier lifestyles. With the integration of concepts designed to focus on the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle, employees are:

  • more attentive
  • experiencing increased energy throughout the day
  • missing work less due to health related issues
  • bonding with their co-workers
  • managing stress better

Our knowledge of the human body is increasing, helping us realize that a healthy lifestyle means much more than committing to less junk food and more trips to the gym. In addition to a healthy diet and regular exercise, we need to reduce our daily mental stress. This is an issue that’s familiar to many of us living in our fast-paced world.

More than once when I felt like my body was completely worn down, my drill sergeant told me that my brain was more powerful than my body and that I could will myself into completing the physical task at hand. Indeed, there is a great amount of research that supports this premise.

So it comes to follow that when companies make the effort to implement a quality, comprehensive health and wellness program that extends beyond a mere lifestyle assessment to include group fitness programs, promote eating right and to provide wellness coaching to assist with management of daily stress, their employees will feel taken care of and will, in turn, repay the investment in a variety of ways.

One of those ways is financial. Wellness Councils of America reports that at a minimum, when companies implement a corporate wellness program it will pay for itself. Robust wellness programs that have the support and participation of senior management can earn a return of as much as seven times the company’s initial investment.

There is an informed advantage of being proactive by developing a health and wellness program at your place of business. Too many of us have spent too many years not paying enough attention to diet and exercise and the amount of stress in our lives. Take care of your soldiers. Take care of yourself. Be fit. Eat right. Think well.
