 What is it?

The Omni Diet is a wellness diet that claims you can lose up to 12 pounds in just 2 weeks. It requires a diet consisting of 70% plants and 30% protein which is free of dairy and only organic.

The intended health benefits include stable blood sugar, long lasting energy, a sense of fullness, and a full range of many nutrients. It is mentioned however that weight loss is not the main goal, but that improved overall health is the purpose of this diet. Our review experts have found that the best weight loss diet is the 18Shake Diet. It combines a fat burning diet pill and an appetite suppressing meal replacement shake. Both are made with natural ingredients and no stimulants, and they’ve been highly reviewed by customers who experienced weight loss results. Omni Diet Ingredients and Side Effects

There are 4 key phases to the Omni Diet:

  • Detox Phase: It lasts a total of 2 weeks. You have to stop eating as you regularly do and follow a ratio of 70% plant foods and 30% lean protein.

No non plant based carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, sweets, or alcohol are allowed.

You’ll be eating things like raw nuts and seeds, organic vegetables (except white potatoes), cage-free organic eggs, limited quantities of lentils and beans, lean meat, fish, poultry, a few portions of fruits which are mostly berries, herbs and spices, and certain oils such as coconut, almond, olive, grapeseed, and macadamia nut oil.

Our review experts have compiled a list of the best weight loss diets.

  • Pump Up Phase: This lasts 2 weeks. A food journal is recommended and you’re also going to evaluate how you eat. Exercise is introduced and you’re still restricting the same kinds of foods.
  • Relax Your Way To Better Health Phase: Another 2 week phase that increases the amount of exercise you do. You’re allowed to not follow the diet for 10% of the time you eat.

This includes adding more grains and legumes, eating 3 bites of foods not advised by this diet, drink up to 2 drinks of alcohol a week (gluten and sugar free), and all while avoiding foods which can cause health issues.

  • Moving Forward Phase: This is the stage you keep for the rest of your life. You maintain the 70% plants and 30% protein ratio and just like phase 3, you follow this diet 90% of the time.

The diet can take a lot of discipline to follow due to how quickly it expects people to adopt a mostly plant based diet. There are also many restrictions on the kinds of foods you can eat, which includes many common items.

While it does emphasize eating wholesome whole foods, it can be extremely difficult to follow. There are many things to consider which can make it difficult to know how to begin and properly plan an eating schedule.

A lot of time needs to be dedicated to cooking and measuring foods to ensure you’re getting the right amount of protein and plant foods. Click the link provided for a list of the top ranking weight loss diets.

It’s also claimed you can lose 12 pounds in 2 weeks. This equals around 1.16 pounds of weight loss a day. Research has shown that up to 2 pounds of weight loss a week is recommended as more than that can be hard to keep long term. Live Strong.com advises:

“safe and realistic goal is ½ pound to 2 pounds we week… about 2 to 8 pounds per month”

So it’s possible one won’t retain the weight loss promised by this diet.  No evidence is provided either that this diet would promote this much weight loss.

Omni Diet Quality of Ingredients

You’ll be eating a lot of whole foods which is certainly healthy, but you are also restricted to what kinds of foods you’re allowed.

When starting a weight loss diet it’s important to not make huge changes to begin with as it reduces the likelihood that you’ll succeed. You also have to consider:

  • No dairy, sugar, certain grains, corn, soy, or artificial sweeteners are allowed.
  • You have to eat only foods from the allowed list to begin with. This causes a drastic change in the way you eat.

Eating out can be difficult and you’d have to begin a diet that is mostly vegetables. If you’re not used to this it may not be satisfying enough both in taste and in suppressing appetite.

Web MD has also mentioned:

“will be a big change, if you currently eat a typical American Diet… probably going to be a big adjustment”

A lot of effort will be needed to ensure you live up to the high standards of this diet. This makes it unlikely to be a lifelong solution, which is exactly what the diet requires.

Another major concern is of the time needed to make these foods. You’d have to buy many different whole foods in order to have enough food variety. For those who are unfamiliar or aren’t good at planning, this can be a difficult challenge.

The Price and Quality of Omni Diet

It can be extremely costly to eat a diet of organic whole foods. This is also all you’ll be eating for the rest of your life. Other costs to consider are the price of the official book, which sells for $13.92 currently on Amazon.com. Supplements are also recommended which brands are created by the author.

While it does offer a nutrient rich diet, you’re also allowed very few choices which can make it unsatisfying to eat.  This makes it too strict which may be impossible for many to follow.

Business of Omni Diet

This diet was created by Tana Amen, a registered nurse who specialized in neurosurgical trauma care. She has also written other weight loss and health books.

No online support is offered and all the information is featured in the Omni Diet book.

For unknown reasons though the author has an official website, she fails to add much information at all about the Omni Diet. She instead has focused on promote her latest diet. It’s not often a good sign when a diet creator moves on to promote another diet for weight loss, as it can be a sign that the previous diet isn’t up to date.

Customer Opinions of Omni Diet

Here are some select reviews from users:

“she’s a demonizer of food and I think psychologically that the book is bad”

“it’s a fad that is exotic, expensive, and unreliable”

“honestly don’t have the time and money to get what these dishes need”

“Nothing new added to this diet book… the rest of us already know all this stuff”

There were often similar negative experiences. Either people thought that the diet is obvious by suggesting eating more vegetables and no processed foods, or that it was too extreme in not allowing common foods.

A common complaint mentioned was of the high cost and effort needed to only use the specified ingredients.  Some found it challenging and unaffordable. People also mentioned that the recipes are hard to follow and that they are labor intensive and require a lot of time.

Some side effects were also experienced by customers that included:

  • Nausea, headaches, and fatigue.
  • Extreme hunger, coldness, and reduced energy.
  • Mood swings, irritability, and low blood sugar.

This was especially true to those who made sure to follow the diet exactly as it was advised.

Major point: losing 1-2lbs a week is safer and more realistic. Faster than that and not enough activity sets most people up for failure. Bottom line: Eat less, drink more water and increase activity….thats all folks!

I have been on the omni diet for 6 months now, 2 rounds. It’s a very hard diet but it teaches toy to eat healthy and maintain your weight. I as well as other women and men that i know have had complete success with the omni diet. I know there are provably better diets out there with less restrictions, but any diet you choose regardless is hoop to you and how much of a change you want. It’s all about commitment.

Linda says:

This way of eating has changed my life, its not for weightless if you have read the whole book you would understand that, its about the challenges we face with autoimmune and hormone issues. Have I lost weight ? Yes, and kept it off. I also have not missed my nerve pain, migraines, allergies, eczema, mood swings and many more things that food can trigger. Its also not expensive, its fruits and veggies and nuts and seeds and lean protein. Being such a basic list it makes it extremely easy to shop….and don’t tell me you cant go out to eat, just the other day I had blackened mahi mahi, had them hold the rice, add a salad with a sliced mango, it was great!! Its not hard when you live with chronic pain, you will do anything, and I am so thankful to have learned from her.
