In spirit of the Biggest Loser (BL) season premiere I want to share with you my experience with the Biggest Loser craze. Finding myself in a slump and an exercise rut, I was wandering down the workout aisle at Target and began looking at the DVDs. For me personally, I am not a DVD workout person and most of the time when I get in a kick and buy one I end up regretting it… asking myself why did I waste my money. Well, I have researched the Biggest Loser workout plan, what Jillian and Bob had to offer and became interested in buying their DVD. So as I’m looking through the DVD workout options I saw two from the Biggest Loser. One video was the Biggest Loser Workout: Power Sculpt (Volume II 2024) and the second video was Biggest Loser Workout: Cardio Max (Volume II 2024). I decided to buy both because I couldn’t decide on which one to get.
First, I did the Power Sculpt video, and to my surprise I liked it. You do great functional movements and you incorporate moves using your upper and lower body to maximize the amount of calories and fat you burn. You work your entire body including your core (stomach, abs) hard and you feel the burn. They suggest using hand weights, but if you’re a beginner to exercise you can get by a week without them.
The next day, after I decided to keep both videos, I tried out the Cardio Max DVD. Wow, I was definitely sucking wind and worked up a good sweat. I was very surprised by the workout and how much I enjoyed the video. Both DVDs made me feel the burn while doing the exercises and I still felt the burn the next day, but was not paralyzed by pain. The video of course still has its corny moments, but overall I found it really encouraging.
What I found really cool about these DVDs is that they come with different features to allow you to personalize a workout (warm-up, workout in which you decide which level you want to do-levels 1, 2, or 3, and a cool down), or you can follow their six-week workout challenge. The six-week workout challenge is a 50-minute workout and you increase the difficulty/switch workouts every two weeks. Also, you can decide whether you want to listen to the trainer’s instructions or just have a music only option. As one of the trainers is taking you through the workout you aren’t suffering alone, you have cast members from the Biggest Loser TV show sweating and working hard with you.
After I finished each DVD I found myself saying, wow… that was good! That’s the first time I have ever said that after a workout DVD. I recommend checking out these DVDs and see if you’ll like them as much as I did!
