Healthy Labor Day Recipes for the Last Weekend of Summer

Seeing as Labor Day is right around the corner, many Americans will be pulling out their grills this weekend. Equipped with our figure-friendly summer cookout recipes, you ought to be one of them.

The problem with most cookout recipes, however, is that they’re usually high in calories and fat. In addition, they leave you feeling lethargic long after the table is cleared. Thankfully though, the line-up we’re sharing today won’t have you reaching for your stretchy pants. Instead, think light, savory, and scrumptious dishes that are the perfect, healthy way to kiss summer goodbye.

First up, enjoy the end of summer with a glass of our famous Red, White, and Blue Sangria. This sangria is perfect for any cookout because it’s light, refreshing, perfectly sweet, and loaded with antioxidant-containing strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Cheers to that!

Sides

Avocado Serrano Coleslaw will make a great side dish for your cookout side. Our slaw contains pineapples and orange bell peppers with a light avocado dressing. Using avocado instead of mayo is a healthier substitute and adds more southwest flavor to the dish.

What’s a cookout without potato salad? Our Red and Sweet Potato Salad is much healthier than store-bought potato salad, and it is great for any cookout! Several of our friends and family requested this recipe after we served it gatherings this summer, so we know it will be a hit at your parties as well!

Main Dishes

Taking a bite of Red, White, and Blueberry Turkey Burger Sliders will rock anyone’s socks off. Tasters described the sliders as, “flavorful, moist, and the perfect size for a snack.” The unexpected punch of sweet from the blueberry balsamic reduction is the perfect finish to this savory treat.

Summer without a BBQ dish just isn’t right. If you love pork, try our BBQ Pork Sliders! Plus, instead of firing up the grill, you can use the oven to cook these instead! This recipe is a win-win all around.

Vegetarian, vegan, or craving a meatless burger? Try our Black Bean and Sweet Potato Burgers! After sampling, tasters said they are “tasty, filling and a great balance of sweet and spicy.” Top with traditional add-ons, or get adventurous and throw on some avocado, jalapeno or salsa!

Desserts

Craving frozen yogurt? Try our Avocado Frozen Yogurt. This unexpected avocado froyo is creamy, buttery, and packs enough flavor to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Craving chocolate? We’ve got you covered. Our Dark Chocolate Brownies were inspired by Julia Child’s famous brownie recipe. However, our brownies are vegan friendly and packed with just as much chocolate flavor as non-vegan versions. Serve as is, or add some melted chocolate chips on top for an extra decadent treat.

And with that, let the healthy cooking begin! We wish a happy Labor Day to you and your family, and we certainly hope some of these healthy, delicious dishes will make their way onto your dinner table soon. Enjoy!
