Food Blogger Spotlight: Amie Valpone from The Healthy Apple

Amie Valpone The Healthy Apple resizeToday’s blog spotlight is The Healthy Apple, created by Amie Valpone, HHC, AADP. Not only does she have impressive alphabet soup after her name, she also has an impressive story. Amie became an expert in “clean” living because she had to.

After suffering from severe digestive issues and being misdiagnosed for years, Amie finally discovered she had the power to make herself feel better by eating better. Below, Amie tells her story and shares several tasty recipes from her gorgeous blog.

Why did you start your food blog? I started my blog in January of 2024 when I was working in corporate America and became very ill. I started cooking more and sharing what I was making, even though it was gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, sugar-free and corn-free. Through The Healthy Apple, I provide balanced, accessible and engaging information on the most basic components of good health.

How would you describe your approach to eating/health? Working with an Integrative Medical Doctor, I learned I was suffering from heavy metal accumulation and was born without the gene to absorb folate, key in detoxification. This made me realize that Western medicine can only do so much – it wasn’t offering my body what it needed to heal. Using acupuncture, yoga, meditation, herbal medicine, and fresh, whole, 100% organic and unprocessed foods, I healed and remain symptom free nearly five years later. I’m unable to digest gluten, dairy and sugar. I follow a clean lifestyle filled with lean proteins, healthy fats and lots of veggies.

Have you always had an interest in healthy food or did it come later in life? My interest came after I became sick and Western medicine doctors thought I was crazy and had me on steroids, painkillers, water pills and morphine. They told me I had to stay on these for the rest of my life and I was like ‘No Way!’ so I decided to work with Integrative M.D.’s and heal myself naturally, as well as figure out the root cause of my illness instead of covering it up with Band-aid drugs.

What is your favorite (or a few of your favorites) food/ingredient to use in the kitchen? My favorite ingredient is zucchini, as well as almonds! I love using both in cooking, baking and raw for snacks!

Has blogging changed the way you view food and cooking? If so, how? Yes, I have made some of my best friends from blogging! I have the most amazing relationships with bloggers all over the country and we connect on a foodie level – we see each other at conferences a few times a year and it’s so much fun!
