Kara Allbaugh Lost 80 Pounds – “I Was a Food Addict and then Something Shifted. I’m So Glad.”

My name is Kara, I’m from Nebraska, and I was a food addict. This was my first introduction to Kara Allbaugh, this week’s True Weight Loss Story inspiration. When I received Kara’s email I was struck by her honesty and touched by her story. This mama said, “No more. I’m worthy,” and then she put in the hard work to lose 80 pounds.

More from Kara in her own words –

Tell me when your weight struggles began. After I finished with school and settled down, it seemed like a downhill slide from there. When I got pregnant, I just gave up on how I looked. I just assumed that’s what happens.

What habits specifically led you to gain weight? I thought I needed to eat for two, and I did. Fast food became an addiction.

What caused you to realize you needed to change? Wow, so many things. My biggest reason was that I wanted to stop being miserable. I didn’t want to be trapped in a flabby body anymore. I wanted to wear anything I wanted, not search forever for something that might make my body look cute.

karen allbaugh 2How did you lose the weight? Simple and to the point. I eliminated all soda, then studied nutrition and taught myself about clean eating. I went from eating fast food every single day, to eating a much different diet that contains 95% fruits, veggies, simple carbs and lean proteins.

For exercise, I started with a gym membership. Once I became more physically fit, I purchased a bike, and a pair of running shorts. I jumped on the Fun Run bandwagon and completed my first 5 mile run on July 24th 2024.

Kara’s Other Fave Exercises

  • Jamie Eason Live Fit program – That woman changed my life on how real exercises should be performed.
  • Ashley Conrad Clutch Program. I have nothing but good things to say about how much it helped me.
  • My Bike. I love it. When I cant make it to the gym, that’s my go-to.

Kara’s motivational tools? I would join every motivational group I could on Facebook. I run a fitness motivation page. I have all my newsfeed pinned to Health & Fitness. I stalked healthy people on Instagram. I worked with my sister side-by-side on the science of weight loss, and most importantly, I DID NOT QUIT! Every day, I told myself that I was in it to win it, no matter what!

Biggest struggle in your journey? The scale, breaking my food addiction habit, and those early 4 am workouts (until it was a habit).

Biggest triumph? When I figured out that the scale was just a number, and it didn’t define me. Also, when I figured out how to make clean food taste delicious.

Current goals? Finish what I started and hit my goal weight.

Future goal? I want to do an Ironman race.

Advice you’d give to other people struggling to lose weight? The first few weeks are not a walk in the park, but I promise you that it will get easier. Do it for your health, do it for your energy levels. Do it for yourself. Start to love yourself again.
