Foodurama Mac App Will Help You Eat a Balanced Diet

food journal Mac AppFood journaling is a great way to become more aware of how much you eat and how many calories you consume each day. If done with dedication, it’s a great tool to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Although keeping a food journal can be tedious, there are a variety of apps to help speed up this process and even provide you with a more detailed look at your daily nutrition.

Foodurama is one such app, which is now available in the Mac App store. You can use the database of over 7,000 different foods to record your diet, create daily meals plans and track calories. Foodurama will also tell you how much fat, carbs and protein you’re eating. You can also record any physical activities you do throughout the day, and the app will automatically adjust your requirements.

HealthNut Mac App Helps You Track Your Nutrition Goals

Diet Mac AppOne of the most exciting Mac apps for dieters is HeathNut, a food journal that uses the FDA food database to make keeping track of your nutrition a snap. You can search the database easily, and HealthNut does all the math for you. Not only does this food journal app show your daily calories, it also breaks down your food intake into specific nutrients. It’s easy to see what percentage of protein, carbs and fat you’re eating.

A few users complain that the food database is not comprehensive enough, but it’s fairly straight forward to add foods that aren’t in the list by using any nutrition label. Or, you can combine existing food entries to create new ones.

Carrie Fisher is the New Jenny Craig Spokesperson

Fresh off the press, the weight loss giant Jenny Craig just announced that its new spokesperson is actress Carrie Fisher. Fisher is probably best known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars as well as the stream of her best-selling books, like Postcards from the Edge.

The 5′ 1″ actress told People magazine that she is humiliated over her weight gain.

“I’m fat,” says Fisher, 54. “All the clothes in my closet belong to another chick. They have to make a new alphabet for my bra size.” (more…)

Fuel Up to Play 60 Reflects Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Program

It’s not just adults who are making efforts to be healthy in the new year. Schools and kids all across the country are also eating and moving their way to a healthier 2024.

The Fuel Up to Play 60 is a nationwide program that has been encouraging kids and classrooms to healthy up their lives through an interactive challenge and contest for the past two years. Now, Fuel Up to Play 60 just announced that it’s accepting applications for 2024.

For those of you who don’t know what the program is all about, Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program. Launched by National Dairy Council and the National Football League in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Multiple health and nutrition organizations and several major corporations are also supporting the program. (more…)

Britain to Bribe Citizens to Slim Down

UK MoneyAfter the success of several trail programs, the British government announced that it will be using financial incentives to get its citizens to be healthier. They will be offering £50.00 vouchers (about $78 US dollars) that can be exchanged for healthy fruits and vegetables.

“We will be expanding programs that use financial incentives for healthy behavior where the evidence supports it,” said a Department of Health spokesman who did not want to be named, in line with government policy.

Critics of the program worry that health department funds would be better spend elsewhere, and that the government’s efforts aren’t enough to change people’s bad habits and reverse the obesity epidemic.

5 Foods to Add to Your New Year’s Diet

When you walk down the aisles of your local grocery store, you’re immediately bombarded with food advertising that promises to provide a healthier option. Certain brands make claims like: “20 percent less fat,” “fewer calories than other leading brands,” or “has a full serving of Vitamin C.” While these claims may be true, you never really know if you are picking out the best foods for you and your family. Shopping for the right food can really be a headache, but there are certain foods in all brands that will improve your diet.

Check out this list of foods that should be stocked up in your fridge or cabinets.

Mangoes: Throw them in a blender for a fruit smoothie, or eat them plain. Either way, this tropical fruit is rich in Vitamin E and could help lower the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
