Bloggers Band Together for Diet Support

Sometimes the best weight loss tool can be a support group. If you’re not ready to fork over part of your paycheck to a big online weight loss program or follow a rigorous calorie restriction diet, you might mimic a few of our favorite food, family and lifestyle bloggers and look online to find a community that will help you reach your healthy living goals.

Food bloggers Sarah Caron of Sarah’s Cucina Bella and Cate O’Malley of Sweetnicks launched Eat. Live. Be., a healthy living challenge for a diverse group of bloggers who are trying to meet healthy living goals in 2024.  Some are trying to exercise more (or more regularly), some are pledging to cook more healthy dinners each week and others are giving up Diet Coke.

“I am working toward losing 40 pounds — and having the support of this fabulous community makes me more accountable,” said Caron. “I hope it makes others more accountable too.”

Futuristic Fridge Could Assist Dieters

I admitted on twitter a few weeks ago that I had ordered a pizza for dinner after spending several days caring for a very ill doggie, making multiple trips per day to the vet’s office, rescheduling clients, and preparing for Christmas. After all that, I did not think my brain was up to creating dinner for myself and visiting relatives. We have all had those moments when we are mentally zapped. I knew that proper nutrition and full physical energy are important to mental recovery though, so I committed to drinking several glasses of water with my pizza and going to bed early. With the new fridge of the future however, pizza delivery may no longer be necessary when meal planning is more than you can manage.

Indulge in the Health Benefits of Hot Chocolate

This time of year, it’s cold outside and when we get home we want nothing more than the comfort of a warm drink. One popular choice is hot chocolate, but those who are looking for weight loss you may avoid it, feeling as if it’s a poor diet choice. After all, a drink made with chocolate must not be a part of a healthy diet, right? Not necessarily.

Research completed in 2003 at Cornell University showed that hot chocolate contains more antioxidants per cup than red wine or tea and offers an even tastier way to get those high levels of antioxidants into your diet. Research has proven that antioxidants can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and age-related macular degeneration. In order to obtain the same amount of antioxidants that you will find in a cup of hot chocolate, you would have to drink two to three cups of green tea, or two glasses of wine. Drinking hot chocolate is a healthier choice for you than eating a similar amount of chocolate because of its lower amount of saturated fats. (more…)

5 Easy Tricks for a Healthier Life

Maruchy Lachance is president of Running Ninja!, a lifestyle brand for runners by runners. Running Ninja! offers a wide variety of apparel and gifts for runners to keep you happy and inspired while you’re on the run.

The most important thing I repeatedly see in people who have successfully adopted a healthier lifestyle is that they have personalized it. So many of the diet and exercise programs that are pitched to us on a daily basis are all about taking one formula and applying it to the masses. It’s no wonder so many people try and fail using these methods.

I talked to a few friends and family members who are living a healthy lifestyle and they shared with me some of the ways they have made this journey more personal and more successful.

Calorie replacements:

  • Maggie kicked her daily soda habit by replacing it with seltzer water and sometimes spiking it with juice or a squeeze of lemon or lime.
  • Samantha had a lifelong love affair with dessert after dinner, an affair she was not willing to give up. Her solution is to allow herself a dessert a day as long as it is 100 calories or less. She has found a variety of 100-calorie desserts to keep her satisfied and fit. (more…)
