Bethenny Frankel Grows from Real Housewife to Skinnygirl Mogul

Bethenny Frankel was born on November 4, 1970 in New York City. She was the only child to Robert J. Frankel and Bernadette Burke. Frankel has been quoted in numerous interviews and describes her childhood as abnormal. Bethenny remembers her childhood being filled with abuse, eating disorder, and chaos. Her father’s career was consumed with horses and race tracks, and when Bethenny was 4, he walked out on his family. She remained fatherless until her mother remarried another horse trainer. Even with a new father figure, Frankel’s childhood was troublesome. Because of her detrimental childhood, she had an on going battle with an eating disorder during her teenage years.

After graduating high school in Florida, Bethenny moved back to New York to attend college. She graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and psychology. Like most college graduates, Frankel did not know where life would take her. She decided that Los Angeles would be the perfect place to start her career. First, she wanted to be an actress, but rounds of rejection had her shooting for a career in event planning. Realizing event planning wasn’t her forte, Bethenny moved back to New York to attend the Natural Gourmet Institute and Culinary Arts, where she learned healthy food options and recipes. (more…)

How Skinnygirl Bethenny Frankel Built a Health and Beauty Empire

Bethenny Frankel may have been first known as one of the original five ‘housewives’ on Bravo TV’s The Real Housewives of New York City, but she has since transformed herself into a household name with her fame as a best-selling author, entrepreneur and natural foods chef.

The overarching brand name of the star’s health and beauty empire is Skinnygirl, which started in 2024 as a slimmed-down cocktail line that has since grown into an entire offering of daily vitamins, health food products, a skincare line, and even fashion items such as her Skinnygirl Smoothers n’ Shapers.

But besides her line of beauty products and healthy cocktails, some of Frankel’s other best-selling products include her books Skinnygirl Dish, Naturally Thin, and Skinnygirl Rules, as well as her fitness DVDs Bethenny’s Skinnygirl Workout and Body By Bethenny.

The star also has a deep love for food, which was fanned into flame at the Natural Gourmet Culinary Institute, where upon graduating from she started a natural foods bakery and delivery service called BethennyBakes. (more…)

SkinnyGirl Cocktails Eliminated from Whole Foods’ Shelves

Natural grocer Whole Foods recently decided to pull the popular SkinnyGirl cocktail line from their shelves.

Whole Foods claims that the low calorie alcohol beverages contain unnatural ingredients. Lisa DeFazio, MS, RD, and Hollywood Nutrition Expert, said that Whole Foods allegedly removed the popular beverages because they contained caramel coloring, which was not within their definition of “natural.”

According to the Whole Foods blog, natural can be quite a complicated definition.

“‘Natural,’ on the other hand, doesn’t have a strong governmental definition when it comes to food, so my team (the Quality Standards Team) spends quite a lot of time defining which ingredients make up the natural foods we sell in our stores. The basic tenets of our standard require that our products are free of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats,” Joe Dickson, Global Quality Standards Coordinator for Whole Foods wrote.
