For all you early adopters of wearable tech, or even those of you observing from the sidelines for now, startup ‘Race Yourself’ wants to bring a new layer to your daily exercise routine: augmented reality.
Their app is launching Spring 2019 and is specifically made for Google Glass. You can pre-order a bundle of 10 exercise games for $9.95 on their website, as well as two accessories to enhance your workout experience.
The first is a Bluetooth heart rate monitor, which connects wirelessly to Google Glass. It sells for $39.95 and includes the same 10 exercise games. Since many of the games and activities include heart rate zones, it’d be a worthy investment to help you get the most out of your work out.
If you’re ready to go all-in on the experience, you can shell out $69.95 to get the Bluetooth heart rate monitor, the 10 exercise games, and a speedo that adds hands-free navigation and cadence data so you can challenge your friends.
From what we can tell, the ‘Race Yourself’ games and monitoring for Google Glass are the first of their kind. However, the idea of gamifying otherwise mundane, routine tasks isn’t anything new. The idea behind it is simple: reward hard work with exciting new content to help you push yourself to new levels.
How does it work and what does it look like, you ask? Check out the short demo video below to see it in action.
If you’re interested in picking up any of the three packages for yourself, you can pre-order any of them from the company’s website, RaceYourself.com, now. They’ll ship in the coming months.
