Erin Alderson is one of those bloggers that you can’t help but imagine rummaging through her abundant garden on Sunday mornings, cooking away a hearty stew on a cold winter day, and spending her nights cozied up to a cup of tea, dreaming up amazing, seasonal and healthy vegetarian recipes for the enjoyment of her readers.
I don’t know how accurate of a picture that really is, but based on the beautiful and healthy recipes that flow from her blog Naturally Ella, I can’t imagine she spends her time doing much else.
Erin has been one of my favorite bloggers for the last year or so as I seek to eat more whole, honest-to-goodness real foods for the betterment of my health. If you visit her site, I know she can help you do the same.
I recently had the extreme pleasure of chit-chatting with Erin about her blog and her approach to health. Here’s what she had to say.
Why did you start your food blog?
I started blogging six years ago because I wanted to share my baking recipes that I was turning healthy. The blog has definitely evolved from there!
How would you describe your approach to eating/health?
I take word from Michael Pollan here, “Eat Food. Not too Much. Mostly Plants.” My diet consist heavily of grains, legumes, produce, and whole milk dairy. I’ve tried to cut out all processed foods.
Have you always had an interest in healthy food or did it come later in life?
I grew up on fast food and it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I had a major life change due to my father having a heart attack and my grandmother talking with my about the consequences of diabetes. My views on food and health have been evolving since then!
What is your favorite (or a few of your favorites) food/ingredient to use in the kitchen?
I always have dried beans cooked up in my house- they are my go-to add on for any meal.
Has blogging changed the way you view food and cooking? If so, how?
If it wasn’t for my blog, I probably wouldn’t have the same food views as I do today. It was because of my blog that I got involved in the local food scene, mainly the CSA, and it was from there that I really started pushing more toward unprocessed foods.
