Like Joanna O’Leary over at The Houston Press, I was never a fan of Poison… even in my ’80s metal glory days. And while I did watch The Apprentice the first year or so, I have had little interest in stomaching Donald Trump’s ego.
But, apparently Brett Michaels, lead singer of Poison, has made a Diet Snapple product through his role on Celebrity Apprentice, and it’s getting a warm reception.
In doing so, the Type I diabetic rocker has raised $250,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
His Diet Trop-a-Rocka Snapple Tea combines black tea with mango, cinnamon, peach, and pear flavors. It has no sugar, but is enhanced with aspartame. What’s nice is it only has five calories.
Last April, Michaels was taken to the hospital after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a stroke that includes severe internal bleeding around the brain. His survival is a minor miracle since most people who have a subarachnoid hemorrhage die almost instantly.
O’Leary likes to think that maybe, just maybe, the Diet Trop-a-Rocka played a role in saving Brett Michaels’s life, since green and black tea have been associated with stroke prevention. Since the word is prevention I doubt it… the stroke actually happened. But it’s fun to ponder, I guess.
